ICX 7150 C12P PoE failure

kngoworld
New Contributor II

Sorry in advance for my minimal technical experience.

Like so many others, my Lennar new build came with the ruckus switch and the PoE has stopped working.  The switch will still work for devices that just need internet access, but if its needs power through the ethernet, it will not work.  3 devices total, the 2 WAP R510's and 1 ring doorbell will not work because they require the PoE.  My Syst light and PWR light are both green, but the wires that are PoE have no indicator lights lit up.

If anyone could give me some advise on what to do, update the firmware, check settings, anything.  But please treat me like a total beginner and start from the beginning.  I am not even sure how to get into the settings of the switch or find the IP address.  The IP address I have only sends me to the settings for my router.  Please help and thank you in advance.

Hi kngoworld

Greetings!!!

Thank you for contacting Lennar Home Community.

Hope you are doing well!!!

Thank you for the information you shared.

From the case description, I could understand that your PoE devices are not working connected to the ICX-7150-C12P Switch.

As you mentioned that on your ICX-7150-C12P Switch, the SYST and PWR lights are steady green, which means the lights are in a normal state.

Since the switch is in the normal state you can take Console access to the switch in order to verify, if the switch is able to transfer the power to PoE devices via 12 ports.

To check this, first, we have to get access to the switch, and there are Two ways to get access to the switch.

  1. I) By IP Address of the Switch OR
  2. II) By Console Access to the Switch

  1. By IP address: To fix this issue, we must identify the ‘current’ IP address assigned by your local router to the switch ICX-7150-C12P

I will leave you a guide on how to perform an IP scanner on your local network to identify the switch IP address very easily.

How to find my Ruckus “Devices IP address” using free applications:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-find-my-Ruckus-Device...

Once we identify the IP address of the switch proceed to access remotely to the device “Command Line”

How to remotely access to 'ICX 7150-C12P' or 'access points' "Network devices":

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-remotely-access-to-IC...

If you can access the Command line should look like this:

ICX7150-C12 Router>

  1. Now please perform the following commands and share the output:

enable

Show version

Show inline power

Show inline power detail

  1. By Console access: If access via IP address is not possible here is a guide on how to access to the Switch via console (cable access between your PC to the ICX 7150-C12P) in this case we need a USB type C to USB standard or Console cable Rj45 to USB.

How to console in the ICX-7150-C12P

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-console-in-the-ICX-71...

Once you are logged in to the ICX-7150-C12P please follow up the same steps that are on point '2'

Please let me know if you have any queries in this regard.

Thank you for the reply, I truly appreciate it and you have already helped me a lot.

After some work, I was able to get the ip address of the ruckus switch, but I had to power off and on the switch a couple times before advanced IP scanner finally found it.  But that did not help much because I don't know the username and password and I tried all the usual defaults and they did not work.  So I connected to the switch using console with my usb-c to usb wire.  I ran the commands you recommended and noticed that the POE were all off.  I found another forum with similar issue and found this post:
https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/I-have-an-ICX-7150-C12P-and-...
I ran the commands recommended and the PoE came back on.

Below is everything from the console if you want to read it all.  Can you tell if my switch health is good?  Should I be concerned the PoE could turn off again?  Can you direct me how to reset the usernames and passwords for my switch and my 2 R510s?  Should I be upgrading the firmware?

Again, thank you!

Hi kngoworld

Greetings of the day!!!

Hope you are doing well!!!

Thank you for the information you shared.

From the information you shared, I understood that the PoE of the ports was in the off/disabled state, as a result of which you were unable to get the ports working. And now you have enabled the PoE on all of the ports and they are working.

Please find the answers to your queries below:

  1. Can you tell if my switch health is good?

The Switch is now in a normal state. However, we can see that the Switch is in an unsupported and unstable version (8061a). To avoid any issues in the future, we suggest you Upgrade the switch to a new latest stable version (8095g version). I will explain how to Upgrade the Switch in the later part of this post.

  1. Should I be concerned the PoE could turn off again?

The PoE may get turned off due to a sudden power outage/power spike.

  1. Can you direct me on how to reset the usernames and passwords for my switch and my 2 R510s?

Reset Password process for ICX-7150-C12P Switch:

Please try using the below-mentioned default Switch Credentials:

Username: super

Password: sp-admin

Below is a guide to check with default credentials:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/Admin-usernames-and-password...

If default credentials do not work, please follow the below steps to reset the Password on the ICX-7150-C12P Switch:

Please follow the below guide to perform password recovery:

Password Recovery on a Ruckus ICX Tutorial video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJS28DWbHM4

Recovery Process:

  1. Console access to the switch.

How to console in the ICX-7150-C12P

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-console-in-the-ICX-71...

     2. Reboot the switch with the console cable attached and press "b" until the following is displayed.

  • Enter 'b' to stop at boot monitor:  0
  1. Using the following commands to remove the password
  • no password
  • boot_secondary

Now again reset your new credentials as mentioned in the steps below:

Edit the current or create a new password and username by using the below commands:

enable

configure terminal

device(config)# username super password pass

Where the username is ’super’ and password ‘pass’

In order to allow the correct authentication please run the following commands:

Device(config)#crypto key generate rsa

device(config)# aaa authentication login default local

Now you could try using your new credentials to log in.

Reset Password process for R510 Access Point:

In order to reset the credentials on the Access Point, we have to perform the Factory reset to the AP, as described below.

Here are the steps to reset the password and username for your Ruckus Access Point on the ceiling.

Please read the following guide carefully:

Physical Factory Reset an Access Points Ruckus:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/Physical-Factory-Reset-an-Ac...

Ruckus Unleashed Set-up using your Mobile:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/Ruckus-Unleashed-Set-up-usin...

  1. Should I be upgrading the firmware?

As mentioned above, since you are in an unsupported and unstable version (8061a). To avoid any issues in the future, we suggest you Upgrade the switch to a new latest stable version (8095g version).

The recommended stable version is 8095g-

Below are the options or methods to perform the Upgrade on the switch:

1st Option:

In this option, we will use a pen drive or USB flash drive in which we move the files to the pen drive and connect it to the Switch then through CLI we execute the commands to upgrade the Switch using the following guide as a reference:

How to Upgrade a Switch ICX-7150-C12P using a USB flash drive

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-Upgrade-a-Switch-ICX-...

2nd Option:

The following guide is an example of an upgrade via TFTP server, by using an application (FREE) to send files or upload remote files to a device, in our case, we will use it to update a new version to the Switch, basically it will send the image version remotely from the computer to the switch.

How to upgrade a Switch ICX7150-C12P via TFTP

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-Upgrade-a-Switch-ICX-...

Please let me know if you have any queries in this regard.
