Is it possible/recommended to keep our switches updated with new firmware?
Is it also possible to use a router layer 3 capable software? It looks like the "lennar" version is SPS.. which I think is designated as switch only? does this mean layer 2? Thx if anyone has any insight.

Based on your description, it seems that your switch is running the code 08090k. The recommended firmware version for ICX 7150 Switch is SPS08095dufi.bin . Please follow the below guide for upgrading the firmware.
1.Upgrade a Switch ICX-7150-C12P using a USB flash drive
2. Upgrade a Switch ICX7150-C12P via TFTP
3. Upgrade a switch via Web GUI (ICX7150 Switch)
