ICX 7150-C12P-2X1G - System: U1-MSG: PoE Severe Error: PD on port 1/1/x

Hi Ruckus Pack,

I live in a Lennar Community, and have recently ran in to a problem with our ICX 7150-C12P-2X1G unit.

I am encountering this error on the unit:
"System: U1-MSG: PoE Severe Error: PD on port 1/1/12 cannot be powered due to power being injected on another port of this unit. Configure "no inline power" on all Switch to Switch connected ports of this unit and peer unit(s) to resolve the issue."

I removed all the other devices were plugged into the unit, and test each AP individually, and I see the same error across different ports.

I have tried power cycles and even factory resets to no avail, I was able to upgrade to the latest firmware, but it did not resolve the problem either.

Running Image Version: SW: Version 08.0.95jT211
Running Boot Image Version: 10.1.26T225, size=786944

Both of my APs are down due to no power.  I tested the AP with a separate power adapter and moving the ethernet cord to the non-PoE eth port on the AP, both AP came online.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Patrick

Hi @PMcCaw

Thank you for the response and for sharing the requested information.

Based on the troubleshooting done, your ICX-7150-C12P Switch has PoE issues with its multiple ports. We tried to power on them from CLI multiple times and there is a ‘voltage applied from the ext src’ error even if the port is not plugged in by any devices. PoE devices are not getting power even though the port is ON. The Switch is on the latest version.  However, the failure persists. This unit Should be RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) in simple words replacing it.

Feel free to contact us via chat, comment you already have a post, copy the link from the post (URL) and paste it into the chat to start the unit replacement.

Please follow the below steps as shown in the below example:

Hi @PMcCaw

Greetings!!!

Thank you for the detailed information you shared.

As I see from the picture you shared, seems like the ethernet cable which is coming from the Router or Modem/Router combo is plugged into the wrong port on the Switch panel. It must be plugged into any 1 in-12 ports as shown in the below screenshot. Please unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the correct port and try again.

Please refer to the short guide link below about how to connect the devices as reference:

Most common Setups for Lennar homes users:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/Most-common-Setups-for-Lenna...

And for port issues, we will check some configurations on the Switch, please follow the below steps to check the same.

Please follow the below steps and help us with the queries,

1. To check this issue, we must identify the ‘current’ IP address assigned by your local router to the switch ICX-7150-C12P

I will leave you a guide on how to perform an IP scanner on your local network to identify the switch IP address very easily.

How to find my Ruckus “Devices IP address” using free applications:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-find-my-Ruckus-Device...

2. Once we identify the IP address of the switch proceed to access remotely to the device “Command Line”

How to remotely access to 'ICX 7150-C12P' or 'access points' "Network devices":

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-remotely-access-to-IC...

If you can access the Command line should look like this:

ICX7150-C12 Router> OR

ICX7150-C12 Switch>

Please enter the below commands once you log in to CLI and share the output.

Note: Hit Enter to accept each command

enable

show version

show flash

show inline power
show interface brief

show inline power detail

Please share the output of the above commands or share the screenshots if stuck at any step or error (if any) and let me know if you have any queries in this regard.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Hi @PMcCaw

Thank you for the detailed information you shared.

Please note, as mentioned in the previous post unplug your ISP Router ethernet cable from the Switch panel and plug into the 1 in-12 ports.

As I can see from the information you shared, the PoE is in the disabled state on the marked ports of the Switch (Please refer to the below screenshot). By which the Access Points are unable to get the power.

To enable the PoE on the Switch, please perform the below commands from the CLI:

Switch>enable
No password has been assigned yet...
Switch#configure terminal
Switch(config)#interface ethernet 1/1/1 to 1/1/12
Switch(config-mif-1/1/1-1/1/12)#inline power

Also attaching a Screenshot as a reference:

Once you perform the above process all ports should be On, and APs should get the power.

Please let me know if you have any queries in this regard.

NOTE: Please feel free to mark the post as ACCEPTED SOLUTIONS.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Hi @Imran,

When I enable the inline power I receive this error:

"System: U1-MSG: PoE Severe Error: PD on port 1/1/12 cannot be powered due to power being injected on another port of this unit. Configure "no inline power" on all Switch to Switch connected ports of this unit and peer unit(s) to resolve the issue."

This is why the ports 1/1/1-1/1/11, are currently admin down.

I have port 1/1/12 PoE admin "On" with one of my APs plugged into it, but it is not receiving power via PoE.

Thank you,

Patrick

Hi @PMcCaw

Thank you for the response and the update.

Please enter the below commands and try once again:

Switch>enable
No password has been assigned yet...
Switch#configure terminal
Switch(config)#interface ethernet 1/1/1 to 1/1/12
Switch(config-mif-1/1/1-1/1/12)#no inline power (please wait till the process gets complete)

Switch(config-mif-1/1/1-1/1/12)#inline power (please wait till the process gets complete and check)

Please check and let me know if you have any queries in this regard.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
