Issue Description:

If your RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch stopped working after a power outage or power spike, it may be stuck in what’s called boot mode. In this state, the switch fails to start up normally and will not supply power (PoE - Power over Ethernet) to connected devices like RUCKUS Access Points (APs) or any other devices.

This issue often causes:

  • No Wi-Fi in your home (since APs get power from the switch)
  • No power or activity lights on the Access Points
  • Amber or orange light on the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch’s SYST indicator, and green light on the PWR indicator

Environment:

  • Product: RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch
  • Software Version: Most common in devices running Non-Unified Forwarding Image (Non-UFI) firmware, especially versions older than 08.0.80f

  • Other Conditions: Not Applicable

Root Cause:

When the switch reboots due to a power interruption or electrical surge, it may fail to load its software correctly, causing it to enter boot mode. In this mode, it can’t deliver power or manage network traffic.

How to Identify the Problem:

  • Look for these signs:

Figure 1: ICX-7150 Switch in Boot Mode
    🔸   SYST Light = Amber/Orange
    🟢 PWR Light = Green
🕳️  No lights on the Ethernet ports or connected devices

Figure 2: Access Points Not Powering On

    • No lights on ceiling-mounted Access Points
    • No internet or Wi-Fi across the home

Solutions to Fix the Issue:

Solution 1: Try a Physical Reset Using a Paper Clip

This method is quick and works in many cases.

Steps:

1. Unplug the switch from the power outlet.

2. Prepare a paper clip or small pin.

3. Hold down the reset button (on the front of the switch) using the paper clip.

4. While holding the button, reconnect the power to the switch.

5. Wait for all the LEDs to flash amber, then release the reset button.

Important Notes:

  • You may need to repeat this reset 35-40 times, as it has worked for many users after multiple attempts.
  • When successful, both SYST and PWR lights will turn GREEN.

Solution 2: Perform a Software Recovery (if reset fails)

If the paper clip reset does not work, the switch’s internal software (called the "image") may be corrupted, and you'll need to reinstall it using a computer.

What You’ll Need:

  • A USB Type-C to USB cable
  • An Ethernet cable (RJ45 to RJ45)
  • A Windows or Mac computer – (Windows Laptop is preferred)

Recovery Steps Overview:

1. Connect the switch to your computer using both the USB-C and Ethernet cables.

2. Follow the software recovery instructions step-by-step from the official guide.

3. This process will reload the correct system image onto the switch.

Once completed, your switch should restart successfully, and both SYST and PWR lights will be green.

Hello,

I followed the steps to remove power and connect the power back when pushing the reset button but the only light that is green is the power and all other lights continue to flash and amber color. Any suggestions?
