Description:

In certain situations, performing a physical factory reset or hardware reset of the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch becomes necessary that restore the Switch to its factory default settings. This RUCKUS Lennar Knowledge Base article aims to guide Lennar Home users through the proper procedure for effectively hard resetting the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch utilizing a paper clip.

Why do we need a physical factory reset of the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch?

In certain situations, you may encounter issues with the Switch that necessitate a physical factory reset. For instance, if the Switch is continuously booting up, stuck in boot mode (indicated by an Amber/Orange SYST LED and a Green PWR LED), or if you need to restore the device to its factory default configurations.

Environment:

  • Product(s): RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch.
  • Software / Firmware Version: -NA-
  • Other Conditions: Not Application

Solution or Process:

1. Locate the reset button: On the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P switch, the reset button is usually located on the front panel. It may be labeled as "Reset" or "Factory Reset." (Please refer to Figure 1 for visual guidance)

6. Wait for the reset process to complete: Allow the switch to complete the reset process, which may take a few minutes. During this time, the switch will reboot and restore its factory default settings.

7. Verify the reset: Once the switch has finished rebooting, you can verify that the reset was successful by attempting to access the switch using the default credentials (username: admin, password: password). You can also physically inspect the switch to ensure that the LED indicators have returned to their default state with Green PWR and SYST LEDs. (Please refer to Figure 5 for visual guidance)

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Ensure Continuous Power Supply
Make sure the switch is connected to a stable power source during the reset process. Interruptions may cause the reset to fail or corrupt the boot sequence.
  • Hold the Reset Button Correctly
Use a straightened paper clip to press and hold the reset button for at least 10–12 seconds until the STAT and PWR LEDs start flashing together, indicating a successful reset initiation.
  • Avoid Using Sharp or Damaging Tools
Do not use needles or metal objects that can break inside or damage the reset button. A standard paper clip is ideal.
  • Wait for Reboot Completion
After releasing the reset button, give the switch 3–5 minutes to fully reboot. During this time, avoid unplugging power or interacting with the device.
  • Check for Proper LED Behavior
Post-reset, the PWR (Power) LED should be solid green and STAT (Status) LED should be blinking green, indicating the device is operational.
  • No Power or LEDs After Reset?
If there are no lights or response after reset, check:

                - The power cable and power outlet

                - Try a different known-good outlet or cable

                - Confirm that the switch is not stuck in boot mode (all LEDs off or amber)

  • Switch Stuck in Boot Mode?
If the switch fails to boot up after reset, it may be in boot/ROM mode. In this case:

              - Perform the reset again ensuring proper timing

             - If still unresolved, connect via console cable for the Switch Software Recovery.
