Switch in boot mode, unable to reset or console into switch

danalbre

We had a power outage and the access points have no power. Switch appears to be stuck in boot mode as I've seen on many other posts (green and amber lights). Multiple reset attempts do not work (power down switch and hold the reset button while powering back up), the lights just flash amber unendingly. I've tried to connect my computer directly to the switch to update or factory reset, but this has not worked. I've downloaded and installed the drivers that should help the devices recognize the connection (CP210x) and restarted my computer, but when I connect using either a USB-C cable or an ethernet cable using the identified port (COM3), my Putty console just sits there. Of potential note: my laptop has only USB-C ports, I've tried connecting directly from USB-C (laptop) to USB-C (switch) or via a USB adaptor, nothing works. Please advise this is extremely frustrating.

Hi @danalbre ,

Greetings!

Thank you for contacting RUCKUS Lennar Home Community.

I hope you are doing well!!!

Thank you for the information you shared.

From the case description, I understand that the status lights on the Switch is Amber and the PWR light is Green which means that the Switch is stuck in the boot mode.

Please follow the below RUCKUS Lennar Knowledge base self-help article which will help you to fix the issue when the Switch is in boot mode.

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Lennar-Support-Knowledge/Fixing-RUCKUS-Switch-with-an...

Also, I understand that you have followed the steps online and still stuck in boot

May I please know if you have performed reset on Switch multiple times and if the reset still doesn’t work, could you please mention the point where you are getting stuck during Software recovery.. If you could share screenshot, we could look into the matter and assist you accordingly.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,                                                                                                                                                                                  Pinky Rajendran

Hi Pinky,

Please see the first screenshot with boot mode lights.

Yes, the switch has been reset numerous times and each time the lights just flash amber (see below). Flashing.jpg

I downloaded and installed USB drivers and identified the port on my Device Manager (below).Device_manager.png

When I connect my laptop to the switch via USB-C to USB-C and Putty, nothing happens in the Putty terminal (below).

This is where I am stuck, I don't know of any other things to try to get the switch working or to connect my laptop to the switch.

Hello @danalbre ,

Thank you for the response.

I understand that you are getting stuck while performing the software recovery.

I would request you to please share the cable connection between the Switch and the laptop while performing software recovery. (Please see the below picture as reference)

Also, please share the screenshot of the COM port details. COM port details should be with the silicon lab name in the device manager.

I would request you to please check if both the drivers are installed as per the software recovery article.

Once again, please make sure to download the zip drive for the file below & "extract all". Once it's extracted, run the file, the driver should be installed using the 2 links below.

Link 2: silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads

Could you please restart the laptop after installing the drivers and check the COM port details in the Device Manger from the Control Panel?

Also, please wait for few minutes and check if boot> prompt is visible.

Please let us know if you have any queries in this regard.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Ok, I once again installed both drivers and restarted my computer. When I logged back in and started Device Manager, there is no device with the Silicon Labs name.

Device_manager.png

I found an article suggesting that the drivers could be added using the "add legacy hardware" option in Device Manager. I found a few Silicon Labs options there and attempted to add them.Device_manager_legacy_hardware.png

When I do this, I get the error below.

The device does appear in Device Manager after,

but I attempted to connect to the switch using the relevant COMx numbers and got an error.

I'm out of ideas here, please help.
