As an update to my previous post, here is more information.

We purchased a Lennar home in the Folsom Ranch community in Folsom, CA, in July of 2019. The house was outfit by Amazon as a “smart home” that included the Ruckus ICX7150-C12 switch and two R510 Access Points. In addition to this, we contracted with AT&T for 1GB Internet service delivered over fiber to a BGW210-700 Internet router. 

The switch is connected directly to the router over Ethernet, and the switch is connected to the two WAP’s, also via Ethernet. The download speed at the router is 884 Mbps. The download speed at the Ruckus Switch is 831 Mbps.

Since Lennar failed to wire the house with Ethernet, other than the wiring from the Switch to the WAP’s, all other traffic is delivered via the two WAP’s – one on the first floor ceiling and one on the second floor ceiling.

Wireless signals within the house measure as high as 425 Mbps and as low as 250 Mbps, depending on line of site and location from either of the two WAP’s. The office on the first floor which contains the two high-end laptops, which happens to be down the hall and in another room, measures one of the lowest speeds at 261 Mbps.

With the advent of smart-tv’s and streaming devices, download speed in other areas of the house, like the family room, loft, etc., is as important as the office location.

The basic question is: what is the fastest speed that the R510 is capable of, and is there any alternative for reaching places that out of the line of site? Are there alternatives to the R510 that could produce higher WiFi signals throughout the house?

I understand that the version on the Switch is 08.0.90f.

We recommend transitioning to version 08.0.95g, identified as the stable version for Lennar Home users.

To facilitate this transition, we have recently introduced an upgrade tool tailored to ensure a seamless process. Utilizing this tool is straightforward: users simply need to input the IP Address, Username, and password associated with the Switch into the software interface.

Although I was able to successfully download and run the upgrade tool, it requires a username and password for the switch. The one I had used successfully in the past was username = super, pass = sp-admin. When that failed, I diligently tried all of the default username and passwords that are suggested in your documentation, none of which work.

So, again, I am at a loss.

As per the case description, I understand that you are facing issues logging into Switch CLI and needs assistance in resetting the login credentials.

As you have access to CLI, I would request you to please execute the following commands for resetting the credentials:

Note: Hit Enter to accept each command

ICX7150-12P Switch>enable

ICX7150-12P Switch#configure terminal

ICX7150-12P Switch# username super password pass

Where the username is ’super’ and password ‘pass’ (You could choose any of your choices)

To allow the correct authentication please run the following commands:

ICX7150-12P Switch (config)#crypto key generate rsa

ICX7150-12P Switch (config)# aaa authentication login default local

Note: It will take some time to get synchronized with new reset credentials.

Now we can try using these new reset credentials (username/password) to log in to the Switch.

Once you login to the Switch, you may try using the upgrade tool to upgrade the Switch version.

Again as I mentioned before, this process is not for the weak of heart.

Having said that, I was successful (to a degree) in getting the username and password changed and ran the upgrade, which I believe upgraded the switch to SPS08095gufi. After the reboot, I also powered down the switch, brought it back up and retested WiFi. Unfortunately, this did not have the effect I was hoping for, which was significantly higher speeds over WiFi.

I was also confused when I tried a direct login to the switch using its IP address. While I get a sign in screen requesting a username and password, it does not accept the ones I chose via the CLI.

I understand that you have performed a reset on the Switch credentials; however, it seems that the newly changed username and password doesn’t seem to be authenticated.

As you have access to CLI, I would request you to please execute the following commands for resetting the credentials and proper authentication 

Note: Hit Enter to accept each command

enable

configure terminal

device(config)# username super password pass

In this example, the username is ‘super’ and the password is ‘pass’.

To ensure proper authentication, execute the following commands:

device(config)# crypto key generate rsa

device(config)# aaa authentication login default local

device(config)# aaa authentication web-server default local

Note: It will take some time to get synchronized with new reset credentials.

Now we can try using these new reset credentials (username/password) to log in to the Switch using the web browser.

Also, as you mentioned that there is no significant change in the speeds, I would request you to please perform a factory reset on the APs and check the Internet speed.
