New ISP-Ruckus Wifi stopped working

ruckus_houston

Hello,

I switched to a new ISP [fiber optic] and my Ruckus system Wi-Fi is stopped working.

Here is the setup:

Fiber Optic cable-->Modem-->Wifi Router-->Ruckus Swtich [port#11]-->4 Ruckus APs

Setup in bold above is new. Modem and WiFi router is provided by the ISP.

When I connect my laptop via a LAN cable to Ruckus Switch [and turn laptop's WiFi off] I can access internet; there by leading me to conclude that Rucks Switch is getting internet; but there is not Wi-Fi internet connectivity.

Hi @ruckus_houston

Thank you for the response and the information.

As you mentioned that, you are able to connect to the Internet via ethernet cable by connecting it to the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch. And only unable to connect to the Wi-Fi via RUCKUS Wi-Fi.

You can also check plugging the ethernet cable of the Router, which is connected to the port 11 currently, to any 1 in-12 ports as shown in the below picture.

If that doesn’t work, we may need to factory reset the APs. Please follow the below process to factory reset your APs to configure them with a new RUCKUS Wi-Fi SSID.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To perform a factory reset correctly on one of the access points, you must disconnect the rest of your other access points from the "ICX-7150-switch". For example, if you have 3 access points, you should go to the switch and disconnect 2 of the cables to turn off the "2 access points" and only leave 1 connected with which we are going to work the factory reset once you configure the access point and make sure all is good, go ahead and reconnect the other Access Points back.

In your case, as you have 4 APs. Remove three cables and perform a factory reset on ONE connected Access Point once the factory reset is done, please plug the unplugged Access Points cables back to the Switch panel.

Perform factory reset on web browser as explained below.

Thx. It may not make sense [at least to me it does not], but plugging the ethernet cable from router to slot#12 on the switch worked and I did not have to reset APs.

Hi @ruckus_houston

Greetings!!!

Thank you for the response and the update.

Yes, the port restarts when you unplug and plug the ethernet cable into any 1-in-12 Switch panel ports.  Even now if you plug the cable to port 11 it should work fine.

Please let me know if you have any queries in this regard.

I spoke too soon I guess. Internet / Wi-Fi to ruckus has been patchy and slow.

Should I still reset APs?

Also, why would a change in ISP cause this? Previous provider was cable and this one is fiber optic [but after their modem/router, it should not matter].

Please advise.

Hi @ruckus_houston

Greetings!!!

Thank you for the response and the update.

We may need to check some configurations on the Switch, please follow the below steps to check the same.

Please follow the below steps and help us with the queries:

1. To check this issue, we must identify the ‘current’ IP address assigned by your local router to the switch ICX-7150-C12P

I will leave you a guide on how to perform an IP scanner on your local network to identify the switch IP address very easily.

How to find my Ruckus “Devices IP address” using free applications:

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-find-my-Ruckus-Device...

2. Once we identify the IP address of the switch proceed to access remotely to the device “Command Line”

How to remotely access to 'ICX 7150-C12P' or 'access points' "Network devices":

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-remotely-access-to-IC...

If you can access the Command line should look like this:

ICX7150-C12 Router> OR

ICX7150-C12 Switch>

Please enter the below commands once you log in to CLI and share the output.

Note: Hit Enter to accept each command

enable

show flash

Please share the output of the above commands or share the screenshots if stuck at any step or error (if any) and let me know if you have any queries in this regard.

Thank you again for your patience.
