Ruckus ICX 7150-C12P Primary and Secondary Image and Boot corrupted after Power outage

Dear Ruckus Support,

After a Power outage in the building 6 ICX 7150-C12P 12/48 Port switches got corrupted primary and secondary images as well as the boot image at the same time.

All of them could be rescued by installing firstly a non ufi image and then upgrading to latest ufi.

It is a bit far fetched but is there maybe a plausible reason (i know power outage can damage a lot of things) why primary and secondary image got corrupted.

The confusing part is, that all of the switches had exactly the same problem.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Svbujtar ,

Thank you for posting you query

I understand that after power outage 6 icx 7150-c12p/48 switch got corrupted primary and secondary images as well as the boot image at the same time. All of them could be rescued by installing firstly a non ufi image and then upgrading to latest ufi.

So as you mention that you need to install first non ufi image than to ufi , well it totally depend on the current firmware that you are using for example :

Whenever you have a device running a firmware older than 08080, you will have to follow the following upgrade process:

Example:

08020----08080f(nonufi)----08080f(ufi)----08095k(ufi)

Note: IN the above example when you are upgrading from 8020 to 8080 nonufi you need to upgrade boot code as well where as, all UFI versions have the boot code included on the image file hence it is not necessary to also upload the boot code in ufi.

Where as if you are already in a ufi image then you can easily jump to any ufi image.

Moving forward to you query why primary and secondary flash got corrupt after power outage is because the Flash memory has several unique characteristics that make it very vulnerable to power outages hence we always suggest our costumers to use backup ups so that switch can with sand any power outage.

We can recover the flash also via by software recover method as shown in the below link :
