How to Make ICX7150 Unmanaged Switch

Eric
New Contributor

I tried latest firmware for Switch, as well as a firmware turn it to Router.

Not working. What I did was left it as default setting after upgraded firmware, then connect to network by a SFP cable, lights flushing. But the device connect to the switch cannot connect to network.

My question: is there a firmware to make ICX7150  unmanaged switch? Or is there some settings for the Switch Firmware to make it work like an unmanaged switch.

Thanks.

Hi Eric

These switches are entry level managed switches . Hence there isn't any firmware to turn it to unmanaged switches. SPS represents switch software version and SPR references to router software version

Please refer the below datasheet for more details.

https://www.commscope.com/globalassets/digizuite/61729-ds-icx-7150.pdf

In factory default setting you can use the switch as plug and play device but only on vlan 1 or only one network in version SPS

you can also refer below link for more details on the device.

https://docs.commscope.com/en-US/bundle/icx-quickstart/page/GUID-C44737B7-9844-47FE-BFCA-04944AF19C9...

Please let me know if there are any more concerns.

Thanks

We only have 1 vlan, so one is fine.

I upgraded to the very lastest one: SPS09010e. Only I can think about is there are 4 SFP ports, and I am using a 10G cable, do I have to plug into a certain port?  Or my network gateway is 192.168.0.1, and mask 255.255.0.0. Maybe some setting needed, can you point me to a right direction to get those settings. Thanks

Hi Eric

Ack and noted. I have mentioned below the requirements you are looking for as per my understanding. If I am missing on a certain point , you can feel free to post raising a concern.

Requirement :

  • Only 1 vlan is fine which is vlan 1 so it will be part of only one network
  • Switch is only for Layer 2 at a access level for end devices
  • Network gateway is 192.168.0.1, and mask 255.255.0.0 I suppose this is your uplink

All ports in the switch by default will be untagged to vlan 1

So for testing and to check if you have connection to your uplink ip which is 192.168.0.1/16 // from ports 1 to 24

  • Connect a laptop on port 1/1/1
  • Assign a ip in same network range to laptop e.g 192.168.0.2/16
  • Ping from end device to 192.168.0.1 to check the connectivity

If the above ping passes you can connect your end devices on port from 1 to 24

And for 4x10GR which I suppose is a 10G link on switch which you would connect to uplink device follow the below

  • Connect on console to the switch
  • Give command "ip address 192.168.0.3/16"
  • Give command "ip default-gateway 192.168.0.1 " which is your uplink
  • Initiate and ping 192.168.0.1

Make sure ping is successful

I hope this helps.

Thanks
