R700

hello, on Christmas, i bought used R700 from eBay, but seller did'nt reset this AP to factory settings, and it is locked to his user name and password, factory reset button did'nt do the job (even after holding the reset button for 15 to 30 seconds), at the moment this AP transmits some old SSID's etc.
Every time after restarting-reseting i see blinking "DIR" light on AP, does it means i can't reset AP without controler it was tied up?
Does RUCKUS forbid second life for old devices?

Hi Amuletas,

Below are the different DIR LED status meanings on Ruckus APs.

  • Off: The AP is not being managed by a controller (Standalone mode)
  • Green: The AP is being managed by a controller
  • Slow flashing green (one flash every two seconds): The AP is managed by a controller but is currently unable to communicate with it.
  • Fast flashing green (two flashes every second): The AP is managed by a controller and is currently receiving configuration settings or an image update.

Also, check if you can access GUI of the AP, if yes (even the login page) that means mostly AP is not managed by RUCKUS Cloud or a controller, because https/http access will be disabled, as soon as AP is managed by a controller and can only be enabled using AP CLI.

I suspect hardware has some issue (reset button) and due to that you are unable to factory reset it.

Contacting old owner and asking them what credentials were set before is the only option. Once you get that, you can factory reset the AP using AP CLI over SSH access.

Hello sir. syamantak_omer, thanks for this very detailed information, I read my first post and now I see that it was not so detailed ...
so now i repeated the reset experiment step by step:

Unit A (just power wire and LAN2 to computer(computer 192.168.0.10, 255.255.255.0 no DNS , no router and no www)
0s - PWR amber
21s - PWR fast flashing green
30s - PWR slow flashing green
52s - 5G and 2.4G orange
54s - DIR slow flashing green
ping to 192.168.0.1 working fine 0,340 ms
https/http  interface working, just super and sp-admin is "incorrect" nor admin+password...
AP broadcast 5 different SSID from previous owner
after 5 min pushing RESET buton:
18s - AIR flashed orange and nothing changed at all...

UNIT B
(just power wire and LAN2 to computer(computer 192.168.0.10, 255.255.255.0 no DNS , no router and no www)
0s - PWR amber
16s - PWR fast flashing green
20s - PWR slow flashing green
46s - 5G and 2.4G orange
49s - AIR slow flashing green
49s - DIR slow flashing green
ping to 192.168.0.1 working fine 0,340 ms
putty.exe connects, just super and sp-admin is "incorrect" nor admin+password...
https/http  interface NOT working
AP broadcast 4 different SSID from previous owner
after 5 min pushing RESET buton:
19s - AIR flashed orange and nothing changed at all...

Hello Amuletas,

I think hard reset mechanism is not working (indicating hardware problem) on these two APs and that is why someone sold it on ebay.

There is no way to gain access to these APs without a factory reset or without using original configured credentials. I think you have reached the point where you should contact the seller on ebay and check if they can help with old owner details (very unlikely) or old credentials, or accept the return/refund.
