Unleashed 200.15.6.212, R510: MAC Authentication with Local Database

I'm having some trouble with the options for MAC authentication which is likely a misunderstanding on my part.

The documentation and config options seem to imply that I can authenticate based on the the client mac address and the user/pass info contained in the "local database", which is a user list with a password and role association.

My encryption options when configuring a WLAN and selecting MAC authentication are WPA2, WPA3, Mixed, OWE or None.

Questions:

  1. Given that the local database has no MAC field, how is this authentication achieved? Does it traverse all user/pass combos until those given by the client match an entry in the DB?
  2. Presumably I cannot configure WPA2/3 as this requires a passphrase and there will already be a passphrase associated with a user in the local database. So I expect I would need to set encryption to "None".

Does anyone have MAC Auth with local DB working in a similar FW/AP combo? Or even understand the correct config such as to provide guidance.

NB. I'm not dedicated to this implementation, I'm just trying to figure out how it works given the options presented.
