vSZ downgrade

SignalSeeker

Hello,

At a remote site, we are running version 7.0.0.0.956 with 15 APs (R350). At our main site, we still have a ZD1200 (10.5.1.0 build 240) managing 26 APs (R310). The two sites were recently connected via fiber.

As part of a network restructuring, we want to centrally manage all APs using vSZ. However, the R310 APs cannot be integrated, and the migration from the ZD fails during the firmware upgrade.

Can I deploy a new vSZ 6 OVA, and will the APs perform a firmware downgrade automatically, or do I need to downgrade them manually? Also, can I simply assign the license to the new vSZ serial number?

Hi SignalSeeker,

SZ 7.0 does not support R310 AP, so the migration is failing. You can follow the steps below to manually add these APs.

  1. Manual Migration- You can follow the manual migration process that involves full upgrade of access points from ZD’s firmware to intermediate solo firmware and then joining the SZ controller. The following guide describes the Manual migration procedure: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/documents/4218-deployment-guide-migration-guide-for-aps-from-zone...
  2. This will also require adding AP patch 6.1.2: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/software/3957-smartzone-ap-patch-6-1-2-0-1003-lt-gd-ap-patch-1003 to SZ controller.
  3. Create a new ZP zone on 6.1.2 version and also create an AP registration rule on Network>AP Settings> AP registration page.

Or

  1. Install a new vSZ in 6.1.2 version and migration should work for R310 AP.
  2. Transfer the licenses using the steps described in the following KBA: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/articles/000004883
