Turning off SmartZone 100 for maintenance

Just a quick question for you all. We have a Ruckus SmartZone 100 controller that manages 100+ APs across a facility. We are looking to do some re-arranging of our network gear and move it to a different rack. If I were to take down the controller, would that also take out the APs until we get the controller back online or is it like some other systems (Unifi, ect.) that the network will continue to operate if the controller goes down.

To get even more detailed than that, I was reading that possibly existing WiFi connections will be fine, but any new ones or AP roaming connection may not work until the controller is back online. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @JasonV ,

There are different scenarios impacting/non-impacting wi-fi services when the Smarzone goes down from the network.

1- If you have SSIDs which are APbridged, there will be no issue to the existing connections.

2:- If you have SSIDs which are operating in tunnel mode, you will see issue with connectivity to all the connection, even existing clients.

Additionally to prevent APs from reboot during the activity, change the below setting in the AP zone>>> Advanced Option>>>AP Reboot timeout(If cannot reach the controller after = 0(never reboot)).
