Web Management for Second-Hand RUCKUS ICX 7150-C12P

I bought a home with the switch below installed with paired access points (R510) for internet access around the house. The original failed last weekend, and I purchased one of the equivalent units from a neighbor who had upgraded their system.

RUCKUS ICX 7150-C12P

The newly purchased, second hand, unit is running firmware 08.0.80. I am seeing lower performance than I did with the equivalent unit before. And I'm trying to upgrade the firmware. I have a laptop hooked up to the USB port and can get to the command line interface. But I am struggling to enable web management so that I can complete settings and firmware updates.

After many hours of web tutorials, and trying various commands, here's where I have gotten to: The boot partition works, the primary partition is corrupted and does not boot, I am booted to the secondary partition. I have been successful in commanding the removal of the configuration information and reset to factory settings. Now, when I do show configuration, I get route=0.0.0.0.  Following each of the tutorials, I cannot seem to get the switch to respond to a ping, therefore access web management, via the 12 ports used for the switch. At this point, I'm looking for assistance in getting to the point where the settings can be updated and the firmware brought up to at least 08.0.95 so that it can talk to the other ruckus appliances and be managed by the app.

There are four devices plugged into the switch. The two power over ethernet access points (port 1 and 2), the internet router (also default gateway), and then a Netgear Orbi bridge to connect one of the rooms with higher speed (port 3 and 4). Prior to the original unit failing, we saw no issues with latency or total download speed. Now, with this unit, the access points seem like they are choked. Devices will routinely switch back to cell because they do not believe there's internet on the Wi-Fi. Latency is high, and while the download speed is good when it's working, sometimes it gets blanked out. My hope is that by getting the firmware up to a more recent standard, performance will be returned. Both the previous unit and the current unit are the same model number.

This has been one of those super frustrating experiences and I am very happy for any and all suggestions this forum may have.  When I do "show version" it shows the SW as 08.0.80dT213.  I make this point because every walk through says I should be able to go into the configuration terminal and then command "ip address ###.###.###.###" except, under "ip" address is not a valid command.  I even went back and pulled the "Ruckus FastIron Web Management Interface User Guide, 08.0.80" and it uses the same nomenclature.  But when I am in the terminal and use "ip ?" to see commands, address is not one of them.  Something just feels "strange" to be sure.

Hello all!  Big update below.

Never underestimate the power of community. I took my daughter to Girl Scouts and talked with one of the other dads. As mentioned, this switch is common across all of our community. He gave me the last piece of information I needed to make everything work.

First, the main issue was that the primary partition was corrupt, meaning I was booted on the secondary partition. I did not quite pick up the importance of this, but I was on the router software. Because the switch was not acting like a switch, my performance was degraded. Also, and I admit this a bit sheepishly, I thought there was only one USB port. I was getting to the command line interface to a terminal on the USB C port.  Underneath the ethernet, there was a USB A port.  My previous failures to FTP the new firmware over to the device could now be circumvented.

With this information, I was able to perform the following:

Follow the steps listed in this option:

1.Upgrade a Switch ICX-7150-C12P using a USB flash drive

I was able to transfer and flash the primary up to 08.0.95n and flash the secondary to 08.0.90 as a backup. I will probably go in and flash the secondary up to 95 is well once I know everything is working fine. Once I got the firmware up to date and now at the stability release, everything is working perfectly. The switch is working like a switch, the command line interface is responding just like the walk-throughs, I'm able to get to the web interface, I'm able to get to the ruckus unleashed app and add it to my access points, all the things you're supposed to do. I had a couple manual steps for enabling web management that were line for line just like the walk-through. I also had a step for enabling SSH that took a little bit of debugging to figure out. I'm just not familiar enough to recognize that creating the crypto key was, itself, enabling SSH.

Everything is working swimmingly and I'm over the hump of a weeks long struggle. The root cause was my naïveté that there was only one type of firmware. Root cause was me trying to execute all of my configuration attempts in the router software versus the switch software. Contributing cause was not recognizing that there was a second USB port that I could use in order to upload the firmware. Now I have a USB stick sitting on top of the switch, loaded with the firmware, and available for backup. It's a great way to start the weekend.
