Description:
This RUCKUS Lennar Knowledge Base self-help article is intended to guide Lennar Home RUCKUS device users through the process of setting up a new Wireless LAN (WLAN)/Service Set Identifier (SSID) that operates on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, or both radio channels through RUCKUS Unleashed Access Points.
Issue or Question:
When may we need to create a new Wi-Fi Network from the RUCKUS Unleashed system?
By creating separate networks, you can better manage wireless resources, reduce interference, and improve overall network performance.
- New Deployment: When setting up a new RUCKUS Unleashed system, you'll need to create a Wi-Fi network to provide wireless connectivity to users and devices.
- To Avoid Wireless Interference: If there is potential interference between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios, creating separate WLANs/SSIDs for each band can help mitigate this issue. This ensures that devices connect to the appropriate band, reducing congestion and optimizing performance.
- To Segregate Traffic: You may create a new WLAN/SSID to separate different types of network traffic, such as guest networks, corporate networks, or IoT devices. This allows for more granular control over network security, bandwidth allocation, and performance.
- To Support Specific Use Cases: If there are specific requirements for certain devices or applications, such as a network dedicated to high-bandwidth tasks (e.g., video streaming or gaming), you may want to create a new network to prioritize those needs.
- Expansion: If you're expanding your network to cover new areas or adding more access points, creating additional Wi-Fi networks can help manage the increased load and ensure seamless connectivity.

4. Configure Basic Settings:
- Network Name (SSID): Enter the desired name for your new Wi-Fi network.
- Description: Optionally, add a description for the network.
5. Security Settings:
- Encryption Method: Choose the type of encryption (e.g., WPA2, WPA3). Recommended is WPA2.
- Passphrase: Enter a strong password for your Wi-Fi network.

6. Advanced Settings (Optional):
- SSID Broadcast: Enable or disable SSID broadcast.
- Client Isolation: Enable this if you want to prevent clients from communicating with each other.
- VLAN ID: If you are using VLANs, enter the appropriate VLAN ID.

8. Quality of Service (QoS):
- Configure QoS settings if you need to prioritize certain types of traffic.
9. Radio Control: Choose the appropriate radio type for the WLAN to operate on, based on the desired frequency band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). This allows you to optimize performance by selecting the radio that best suits the needs of your network and devices.
- 2.4 GHz Radio: Ideal for broader coverage but may experience more interference due to congestion from other devices.
- 5 GHz Radio: Provides faster speeds and less interference, but with a shorter range compared to 2.4 GHz.
Select the radio type that aligns with your network requirements to ensure optimal performance and reduce interference.

10. Save and Apply:
- After configuring all the settings, click on the “Save” button to create the new SSID.
- The new SSID will now be listed under the Wi-Fi Networks section.
11. Verify the New SSID:
- Ensure that the new SSID is broadcasting by checking the list of Wi-Fi available networks on your device.
