Stability release vs Newer releases on ICX 7150 48 & 12 p switches

Hello everyone,

I need some advice on upgrading the firmware on my ICX switches (ICX 7150-48P and ICX 7150-12P). I’d like to make use of the new web GUI, as the old GUI is very dated and (seemingly) more limited feature-wise. I also believe there are some syntax differences between the two major versions (08 and 09)

I know how to update our firmware, and have done it on several switches already, but I see that the recommended “stability” firmware for the ICX 7150 series is still 08.0.95s on the Ruckus download page.

What I’m unclear about is:

  1. Are there any risks or known issues with upgrading the ICX 7150-48P and 7150-12P beyond 08.0.95s in order to get the new GUI?
  2. Is there a specific target firmware version that’s considered safe/stable for these models that also includes the new GUI?
  3. Are there any special caveats or upgrade path requirements I need to follow for these particular models?

  4. This issue arose when I was able to update some of our 7150's to SPR09010k.bin, and it worked on some but returned a "This image version is not allowed on this unit/stack, please refer to the release documentation" on others.

I just want consistency across all our devices with the least amount of stability, security, and modern features sacrificed.

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers!

You certainly can go to 9.x/10.x if you would like or if there is a feature you want there. We recently changed our stability release to 10.x for many platforms, but we held off on 7150 for the time being. It may move to 10.x in the future. If you want 10.x on 7150, I would look at 10010g_cd5 or cd6 (release is imminent). If you are on 8095, you should be able to jump straight to the mentioned images. The only caveat would be if you happen to have a 7150 model than can only run a switching (SPS) image. 10.x only has a routing image. In that case, you cannot use 10.x on that specific box. Hope this helps. Please also review the release notes and upgrade guides as 8.x and 10.x have quite a few differences.
