Noisy ICX 8200-C08ZP (Coil Whine)

Purchased a gray market ICX 8200-C08ZP and it appears to be brand new in matching serial box. Device is flawless and works exactly as it should. But I noticed it is very loud with electronic noise / coil whine. The more traffic its processing the louder it is.

Was this a known issue and that is why these switches are being sold? I attempted to see if there was a way to pay for out-of-warranty service through support but I didn't get a lot of help.

Just trying to find out if this is a known issue, I only heard of this being a problem with the R770 APs, this switch being very new seems like I just received a lemon I hope. The ICX 7150-C12Ps that I am working to replace are dead silent.

Hi Knownguy

Thank you for reaching us

When you mention a very loud electronic noise or coil whine, are you referring to something that might be related to fan speed or airflow?

To help us further, could you please share the following outputs from the switch:

  • skip
  • show chassis
  • show logging

Also, could you confirm if there are any amber LEDs visible on the front panel of the switch? And what is the firmware running on the switch ?

Thank you

Please let me know if you need any additional information. Would love to get to the bottom of this and possibly purchase another same model but can't with confidence at this point.

Here is output from a 08ZP model that appears fine with NO "setting free blocks / inodes":
