Glad to hear that the AP is able connect and you can manage them.
But the SSH access should be allowed by default.
Are you not able to initiate the SSH session or SSH is initiating but unable to login to the CLI?

When trying to SSH I get "Network error: connection refused".

It looks to be a network side issue. Because by default the AP has SSH enabled.
