Cisco Wireless Phones and Ruckus??

Hello

We have a client who is experiencing intermittent issues with their Wireless Phones and we have done a fair amount of troubleshooting to little avail.

Ruckus support suggested to upgrade to 9.6 as they were aware of issues with Wireless Phones.

My question is, does anybody else run a similar setup to us and if so, do you experience any problems??

Cisco CME with 7921 Phones
Ruckus ZD3000 with Ruckus AP's.

We are running the latest firmware on the phones (1.4.5) and the Ruckus is 9.6

The issues are that calls are dropping out, audio is being lost and one sided conversations. The corded phones are fine, it only affects the Wireless phones.

Thanks!

I had a similar issue and it was an interoperability problem with Cisco's power save mode (U-APSD/PS-Poll) and the Ruckus AP.

If you turn off the power save option on the Cisco handset, the issue with one way audio and dropped calls is resolved. Phones will drain their battery faster however.

I hope this resolves your issue as well.

Hi Rob

I actually found your guide last week :)

I have literally just updated their Zonedirector to v9.6.2 as Ruckus advised this fixes the issue with the Power Save modes. The vessel have not thoroughly tested it but the first call dropped audio which is not a good start....

I need to check which phones still have Power Save on and confirm with Ruckus whether it should be on or off for the 9.6.2 firmware.

Thanks

Laurie,

9.6.2 did not resolve the issue for me. Only disabling the power save mode seemed to work. Of course this was for a different phone model so it may be different for the 7921.

I have since upgraded to 9.7 and plan to test with U-APSD/PS-Poll enabled again.

Good luck!

Hi Rob

I was hoping 9.6.2 was going to fix the issue but from the initial tests and what you have said, that may not be the case.

On quick question, was this issue evident on older firmware releases?
The vessel said the phones were 'rock solid' when they were using the original firmware that the ZD came with but as soon as we upgraded them to a later one (at their request), the issue started occurring so I am thinking this issue was introduced in a firmware update.

Laurie,

I'm unable to say for sure if a previous version had the issue or not. I can tell you that we didn't have the issue on the 7925G phones when they were initially deployed and it was reported to me sporadically over time as people started noticing problems. I don't know what firmware version we were on initially, although I do tend to upgrade as versions become available.

For me, rolling back to an old version wouldn't be a good idea as we are in need of some of the additional features in 9.7 (Bonjour gateway, etc.).
