Zoneflex Indoor Placement advice seems contradictory

So, I know that the ideal position for the ZF indoor AP's is a ceiling mount with the dome pointing down.

However, I was reading the indoor mounting advice in the Best Practices guide (http://a030f85c1e25003d7609-b98377aee968aad08453374eb1df3398.r40.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp/wp-wireless-best...) and the statements about the alternative mounting positions seem contradictory.

Namely:
The ZoneFlex AP can also be placed horizontal, i.e., flat-side down, on top of the highest office cubicles  .... Wall mounting the AP vertically, i.e., with the dome pointed sideways, should only be done on the “outside” walls as this orientation creates a shadow behind the flat-side of the AP

The two statements here seem to contradict each other. If mounting on a wall produces a shadow on the back side of the AP, then wouldn't putting it flat-side-down on top of something tall also mean everything underneath it is in the shadow? Or is it saying that the wall itself is the object causing the attenuation under the AP?

I've got a room with impractically tall ceilings and am contemplating between putting an AP on a waist-high table, on a 10ft tall bookshelf, mounted against the wall with dome pointing sideways.

Hello,

Both recommended mounting methods are for horizontal placement, on a ceiling that would

be dome or top of AP facing down, on a bookcase/shelf that would be dome or top of AP facing

up.  Mounting on a wall (vertically) on outside walls, points the most RF energy into the bldg.

You may benefit from refraction to our antenna arrays, so I'd suggest placing the AP flat on

the shelf, 10 feet up and compare connectivity throughout your space, which might be better

than vertically mounted (reaching as far from the "top" of the AP out sideways).

Thanks! I'll try playing around with either flat (rubber feet down / dome pointing up) or exterior wall mount and see which performs better.
