Slow Performance and Poor Range - Ruckus R510 Access Point

Bay

Hello, I have Spectrum wifi, and if I connect to the Spectrum router when standing nearby to it, I get performance of about 500mbps.

When further away from the Spectrum wifi router, I connect to the Ruckus R510 network (there are 2 Ruckus R510s access points in the house with wired backhaul to Spectrum). Performance from the Ruckus R510 network is severely degraded vs. the Spectrum router (~20mbps on Ruckus).

I updated to the latest Ruckus software and ensured I was on the correct country code. I tried selecting "Automatically adjust AP radio power" however this made no difference.

I have also tried connecting via ethernet to the Ruckus network - there, the performance is better ~150mbps, however still much slower than if nearby the Spectrum router.

Would appreciate any troubleshooting steps that could be offered. Thank you

Hi @Bay ,

Greetings!!!

Thank you for contacting RUCKUS Lennar Home Community.

I hope you are doing well!!!

Thank you for the information you shared.

As per the case description, I understand that you are facing slow performance issue while connecting to the Ruckus network.

Could you please let us know the answers to the below queries to assist you better?

  1. Was this working before or is it a new installation? If it worked before, was there any power outage before you started facing this issue?
  2. On your switch while it's plugged into the outlet, do you see any lights on? (Amber or green) Please let us know which lights are on. (Please refer to the below picture and share a picture of the same, showing the light status and the FULL Switch panel cable connections to the Switch ports)

     3. Is your Internet Connection from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) stable and working? (You could check               this by connecting to your local router Wi-Fi or from an ethernet cable from the Router to a laptop/PC).

      4. May I know how many Access Points are connected to the Switch? Could you please let me know the light             status on the Access Points? Any of these lights are on (Please refer to the below picture and share a                      picture of the same)

Please help us with pictures of your ICX-7150-C12P Switch showing the status of the lights and cable connections to the Switch ports. Also, light the status of Access Points.

1. The installation is not new, however performance has always been low. I am running the switch in SPS mode as recommended (not SPR).

2. On the switch, green lights on "stat" "syst", pwr" and various lights within the ethernet plugs attached to the switch.

3. Yes - I am getting over 500mbps from the ISP router, however only about 20-30mbps from the APs.

4. 2 access points. One has green lights for 5G, 2.4G, CTL and PWR; the other has green lights for the same but CTL is off.

I am now attempting to upload the photos in my Ruckus account.

Turn the 2.4Ghz radio off on the SSID you’re testing and see if the speed improves. Your device might be being stupid and choosing the slow radio.
