ICX7150-C12P Stuck on “Writing Shmoo values into flash”

Hi, my ICX7150-C12P switch has failed and is stuck at boot showing “Writing Shmoo values into flash…” in the console output. I have tried all recommended recovery steps including power cycles, holding reset, TFTP recovery, and serial connection with no success. The unit never fully boots and remains stuck. I understand this is a known hardware failure.

 

Can you please assist me in getting an RMA or replacement? I have attached a photo of the console output and can provide serial number or any other info needed.

Thank you for sharing the requested information via PRIVATE CHAT.

Based on the troubleshooting conducted, it appears that your ICX-7150-C12P Switch is currently stuck during the booting process. These are some symptoms of a Switch kernel image failure. Tried multiple troubleshooting steps. However, it seems that the switch has a corrupted image that cannot be recovered, and the issue persists.

Given these circumstances, the switch will need to be processed for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization), which essentially means that it should be replaced.

Feel free to contact us via chat. Copy and share the link from the post (URL), and Switch serial number, paste it into the chat when prompted to start the unit replacement.

Hi Imran! Thank you for the quick reply!! I also spent 9 hours attempting everything with ChatGPT and it ended up telling me after we exhausted all efforts that the unit is bricked and nothing can be done.

Could you please let me know what lights you see on the Switch currently, when plugged into a power outlet?

Thank you for your reply. Attached is a picture of the current status lights when the switch is plugged into power. The STAT, SYST, PWR, and Ethernet cable lights are on and green.

I have checked the status of your RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch from the picture you shared, and it appears to be in a normal state.

Please connect the Ethernet cables for your devices and the ISP router any of the 1–12 ports on the switch (refer to the screenshot below). Once connected, check if the devices start working properly.

Thank you for your response and for reviewing the pictures I shared.

 

Unfortunately, the issue is not related to physical connectivity. As I initially mentioned, the switch is stuck at the bootloader stage and never fully boots up. It freezes on the message:

 

“Writing Shmoo values into flash”

 

I have already spent several hours attempting to recover the device following the official recovery procedures, including:

 

  • Connecting via console with CoolTerm and screen sessions
  • Attempting boot interruption with the ‘b’ key and serial break commands
  • Multiple power cycles while holding the reset button
  • Trying to load firmware via USB and serial
  • Attempted recovery over Telnet and SSH, but the device is unreachable

 

 

The switch never progresses past the bootloader message and is in an unrecoverable state. This is not a configuration issue—it is a hardware failure.

 

The lights on the switch appear normal because the bootloader is active, but the operating system never boots.

This is a known issue with the ICX7150 series, and others have received RMA replacements when stuck at this exact point.

 

I kindly request that this case be escalated to the RMA team so I can proceed with a replacement, as no further troubleshooting will resolve this hardware fault.
