ICX7150-C12-Switch Connect Internet

techbeck

So I am setting up equipment that came with my house.  Switch and two APs.  Switch was soft bricked and after i got everything working again, I can access wifi, switch admin page, and the AP config pages as well.  So everything working.

My setup is as follows.  Recently had fiber setup from my provider.  I had an old wireless i was using so I wanted to keep that while I transitioned all my many devices to the new wireless.

So, fiber box is connected to my ASUS wireless router.  Then I have cable going from my wireless router to port 3 on the switch.  Port 1 and 2 on the switch are where the APs are connected.  Both the old and new wireless are working at with this setup.

So now I want to get rid of the ASUS wireless part.  So I connected the fiber to port 3 on the switch figuring that was all i needed to do.  But I get not wireless on the new APs.  I restarted the switch, new aps, and even the fiber box and no help.  For the heck of it, i tried every other port on the switch as well with no luck.  Not exactly sure what the deal is.  Ideas?

Thanks

Hello @techbeck ,

Thank you for the response.

I understand that you wanted to know if you could connect the Switch directly to the Fiber box and then connect the devices to the Switch bypassing the router.

The router plays a crucial role in a network by assigning IP addresses to the devices and managing communication between them. While, modem’s primary function is to establish an Ethernet connection with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Could you please let us know the answers to the below queries to assist you better?

  1. Could you please confirm if you are connecting the Fiber modem directly to the Switch without the router?
  2. On your switch while it's plugged into the outlet, do you see any lights on? (Amber or green) Please let us know which lights are on. (Please refer to the below picture and share a picture of the same, showing the light status and the FULL Switch panel cable connections to the Switch ports)

All lights of the switch are green. I currently have my router plugged into the switch so I can get my access points working.

What I want to do and if possible is plug in the network cable going from my fiber box directly into the switch without the need of the router. But I don't think this switch has routing capability so I think I'm stuck with my router.
