Issue Description:

This issue occurs when the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch appears to be working (both SYST and PWR lights are green) but does not deliver power to the Access Points (APs).
The reason is that the Power over Ethernet (PoE) function on the switch ports is disabled/off.

As a result:

  • Access Points connected to the RUCKUS Switch will have no lights (completely powered off).
  • Any other device relying on PoE from the RUCKUS Switch will also not work.
  • Even though the RUCKUS Switch looks normal, the ports will not be active.

Environment:

  • Product: RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch
  • Software / Firmware: Typically seen on older Non-UFI images (before 08.0.80f).
This issue can be prevented by upgrading the switch firmware to a stable UFI version.

Root Cause:

After a power outage, restart, or power spike, the RUCKUS Switch may reboot incorrectly. In this state:

  • The PoE feature on all switch ports is disabled.
  • This prevents APs and connected devices from receiving power.

Issue symptoms:

  • SYST and PWR lights on the switch are solid green (normal).
  • No port lights blinking on the front of the switch ports.
  • Access Points have no lights (no power).
  • Devices connected to the switch do not work.

Important initial step:

Before proceeding with the full troubleshooting process, please try the following step first. If the issue persists, continue with the Diagnosis & Resolution steps outlined afterward.

Step:
Connect the Access Point Ethernet cables to a different port on the Switch (any of the available 1–12 ports) to check if the Access Point powers on. (Refer to Figure 3)

Diagnosis & Resolution Steps

Follow these steps carefully to check and fix the issue.

Step 1: Find the Switch IP Address

To manage your switch, you need its IP Address (assigned by your Internet Service Provider’s router).

You can use a free IP Scanner tool on your computer or phone.
See guide: How to find the IP Address of the RUCKUS Devices (Switch and APs) using IP Scanner free applications

Step 2: Access the Switch via CLI (Command Line Interface)

Once you know the IP address:

1. Open a terminal/command prompt or use an SSH/Telnet client (like PuTTY).

2. Check guide: How to access the Command Line Interface (CLI) of the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch

3. Connect to the RUCKUS Switch using the IP address.

It will look like:

ICX7150-C12 Switch>               (SSH access)

telnet@ICX7150-C12 Switch>   (Telnet access if SSH fails)

Step 3: Check PoE Status

Type the following commands (press Enter after each):

ICX7150-24P Switch>enable

No password has been assigned yet...

ICX7150-24P Switch#show inline power

If all ports show as disabled/off, then the switch is not supplying power to APs. (Figure 4)

Step 4: Re-Enable PoE on All Ports

Run these commands:

ICX7150-24P Switch>enable

No password has been assigned yet...

ICX7150-24P Switch#configure terminal

Warning: 1 user(s) already in config mode.

ICX7150-24P Switch(config)#interface ethernet 1/1/1 to 1/1/12

ICX7150-24P Switch(config-mif-1/1/1-1/1/12)#inline power

Step 5: Verify

Run the command again to confirm:

show inline power

  • All ports should now show as On. (Figure 6)
  • APs will power back up (lights will appear).

Summary

  • If your RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P switch shows green lights but no power to APs, the issue is most likely PoE disabled.
  • By accessing the switch CLI and re-enabling PoE, you can restore power to your Access Points.
  • To prevent future issues, upgrade your switch firmware to a stable UFI version (08.0.80f or later).

Tip for End Users: If you are not comfortable using command-line tools, you may share this guide with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) technician or IT professional.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Try another 1 in 12 ports on the Switch: Connect the Access Point ethernet cables to a different port on the Switch to see if it powers on.
  • Check power supply first: Ensure the switch is properly plugged in and powered from a stable outlet. A loose cable or faulty power strip can cause issues.
  • Inspect Ethernet cables: Make sure the Ethernet cables from the switch to the Access Points are firmly connected and not damaged.
  • Restart the switch: Sometimes a simple restart can temporarily restore PoE. Unplug the power cable, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect it.
  • Look for lights: After restarting, check if any port lights briefly blink. If not, it’s likely the PoE issue described above.
  • Check for firmware updates: If this problem happens often, upgrade your switch firmware to a stable UFI version (08.0.80f or later).

If none of these steps help: Proceed with the CLI steps in this article or contact your Internet Service Provider/IT support team.
