difference between qos profile and qos schedule-profile?

Jeronimo

HI.

What is the difference between qos profile and qos schedule-profile?

I think both are same as allocation of bandwidth.

Anyone let me know about it?

Thanks.

Hi @Jeronimo

Greetings!!!

Thank you for reaching out to the RUCKUS Community Forums.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issues you are experiencing with your RUCKUS setup.

Based on the information provided, it appears that you are trying the understand difference between the QoS profile and schedule profile.

We apologize for the delay in the response. Below are the details.

QoS Profile:

Controls traffic treatment / priority.

It defines things like:

Traffic class (voice, video, data, guest, etc.)

Priority level

Rate limits

Queue behavior

DSCP/CoS marking

Bandwidth guarantees per traffic type

Example:

Voice traffic >> High priority

Guest WiFi >> Low priority + limited bandwidth

So basically: “How should this type of traffic be handled?”

QoS Schedule-Profile

Controls when or how bandwidth policies are applied over time or per user/session (depending on platform, often tied to WLAN/user policies).

It’s usually used for:

Applying bandwidth limits dynamically

Time-based rules

User/session rate enforcement

Policy scheduling or conditional application

Example:

Office hours >> Full bandwidth

After hours >> Reduced bandwidth

Student network >> 5 Mbps per client during peak time

So basically: “When and under what conditions should bandwidth limits apply?”

To sum up:

QoS Profile = Traffic rules

QoS Schedule Profile = Traffic timing

Hope that helps.

Thank you again.

Hi imran.

Thanks for reply.

Can you provide best practice guide about those?

At ICX, I wan't to know how to properly apply QoS according to which condition.

Regards.
