Switch firmware update

CarlMontminy

Hello,

We have about 50 switches to upgrade. Our two main models are ICX 6450 and ICX 7250 and these are the firmware’s currently installed on them:

ICX6450:

SW Version 07.4.00bT311             Firmware ICX64S07400b               Boot-Monitor 07.4.01T310 (kxz07401)

SW Version 07.4.00T311               Firmware ICX64S07400                  Boot-Monitor 07.4.00T310 (kxz07400)

ICX7250:

SW Version 08.0.90dT211             Firmware SPS08090d     Boot-Monitor 10.1.15T215 (spz10115)

SW Version 08.0.30hT211             Firmware SPS08030h     Boot-Monitor 10.1.06T215 (spz10106)

SW Version 08.0.90jT211              Firmware SPS08090j       Boot-Monitor 10.1.18T215 (spz10118)

We will probably need to upgrade the boot monitor and the firmware since they are all pretty old.

Are we going to lose some licenses in the process? (Ex: 13-base-2X10G)

Should we move to an earlier version before going to the most recent one or going to the most recent firmware version will be fine and compatible?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi Carl,

I strenuously recommend you study the release notes for the firmware you want to upgrade to. Limitations, caveats and pre-requisites are normally detailed there.

I found a link to ICX upgrade paths, which you may find helpful: https://docs.commscope.com/bundle/fastiron-09000-upgradeguide/page/GUID-7894E17A-26A1-4094-BE3A-2796...

Here's a link to firmware and documentation for the ICX6450 models: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/products/121-ruckus-icx-6430-and-6450-campus-switches#sort=releva...

I hope that helps,
Darrel.

Hey @CarlMontminy

8030u would be my recommendation for 6xxx devices. You should be able to directly upgrade from 7400 to 8030u, but this is a very large jump. I would recommend either testing this path or engaging support to have them confirm the path is valid.

8090m would be my recommendation for 7250. For you devices on 8090d/8090j, they can upgrade directly to 8090m. For your devices on 8030h, you will need to upgrade via the following path:

8030h > 8080f non-UFI (old style image) > 8090m UFI (new style image)

With all of that said, I would recommend reviewing release notes as Darrel stated. You can also open a support case to get assistance.

Thank you very much to the both of you for your answers!

I think we will open a support case to make sure we are doing this right.

I'll make sure to read all the documentation carefully.

Again, thank you for your time.
