I am planning to enable simple RSTP on our 7550 switch which is also connected by trunk to 3rd party switch already running RSTP.
I see the way to enable it is to run command "spanning-tree single 802-1w" however I see on the list after tabbing single there is also RSTP on the bottom of options.
So what would be the difference of running "spanning-tree single 802-1w" vs "spanning-tree single RSTP"?
Thanks

"RSTP" is a left over pre standard. Please do not use that and stick with the "802-1w" option.

Thanks, I will definitely configure 802-1w option then.
But just out of curiosity, can I please get the difference between these two options? When you mean pre standard what exactly does it mean? Is something missing? I would appreciate more detailed answer just for learning purposes.
Thank you

It is RSTP 802.1W Draft 3. You would need to look up those specs to see the difference. It is left over from many, many years ago. It is no longer supported and deprecated. The option is not there in the latest codes (checked 10.0.10f_cd1)
