Three meshed T310c Third one low speeds and drops from mesh

Seeking information of how to best diagnosis this 3rd AP not having the speeds the other two have. AP also seems to restart often. We have checked the 100V feed for dropping or dirty power. All check great.

Hi Lynn,

More details are needed to understand the performance issues in mesh.

1- What controller is managing these APs?
2- What is the software version?
3- Distance between Root and Mesh AP.
4- Type of environment where APs are installed.
5- Third AP is connected to root AP directly or there are more than 1 mesh hops?

Please note that running a AP in mesh mode will give you half throughput than what you get from root APs. By adding additional hops, throughput will decrease by half from its last hop.

For example, refer below setup:

Wired network/SW >> Root AP >> Mesh AP1 >> Mesh AP2 >> Mesh AP3

In above  Root AP >> Mesh AP1 (Throughput/2) >> Mesh AP2 Throughput/2 (Throughput/2)>> Mesh AP3 (Throughput/2).

So if I am getting 100M on Mesh AP1 then I will get 50M on Mesh AP2 and 25M on Mesh AP3.

It is not recommended to connect mesh APs beyond 2 hops because available throughput may not be enough to serve client requirements.

1- What controller is managing these APs?

Unleashed

2- What is the software version?

Will post after site visit

3- Distance between Root and Mesh AP.

See image of map

4- Type of environment where APs are installed.

AP's - All T310c are mounted about 25' in air. AP1 is on top of building on a pole with 30' of exterior outdoor grade CAT6

5- Third AP is connected to root AP directly or there are more than 1 mesh hops?

Hi Lynn,

If you could confirm which one is root AP in this diagram.

As per my understanding, AP1 is root, AP2 is mesh and connecting to AP1 and AP3 is connecting to AP2 (one addition hop).

If you have access to Unleashed GUI, go to mesh settings and try to manually select mesh uplink for AP3 and see if you can map it to AP1 directly (Root AP).

As explained before, with each additional mesh hop, throughput will decrease by 2.

Root AP1 and AP2 is connected to root and AP3 is connected to AP3

I will be onsite Tuesday to make your suggested changes.

Thank you!
