Hi all,

I've buy the Cisco SG300-10MPP for 3 R710, two of devices support 802.3at POE+

But when i use command "get power-mode" on R710. The result display R710 is running in 802.3af mode.
Please help me to find the solution, that will make our R710 can running 802.3at with SG300-10MPP

Many thanks!

Yes, the SG300-10MPP supports LACP and LLDP according to the Cisco support page. Make sure you have the latest firmware.

I've upgrade the lastest firmware for my switch
Does i need config anything, or it will work by default?

I believe the smartport function will automatically detect it.  With the R710, I believe with certain switches it has to be enabled manually to use 802.3at.  Under Administration Settings there should be a section for LLDP.

There are specific differences between 802.3at and 802.3af and they are not compatible.  Here is a quick read:  http://blog.antaira.com/poe-802-3at-vs-802-3af/

The R710 specifically requires:  •802.3af power mode option allowing to leverage legacy PoE switches and to easily deploy

The ability for you to use the r710 on your 300 depends if it is capable of supplying 802.3af  Please note the very last sentence.

Power over Ethernet: Cisco 300 Series Switches are available with up to 48 PoE ports of Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. This capability simplifies advanced technology deployments such as IP telephony, wireless, and IP surveillance by allowing you to connect and power network endpoints over a single Ethernet cable. With no need to install separate power supplies for IP phones or wireless access points, you can take advantage of advanced communications technologies more quickly, and at a lower cost. Some models support both IEEE 802.3af PoE and IEEE 802.3at PoE+ while others support IEEE 802.3af PoE only

We also have R710's and have the  same issue too with the SG300-10MPP switch.

We're running the latest firmware on the switch (1.4.5.02), have LLDP  enabled, have the PoE-PSE Optional TLVs on every port enabled too (with the corresponding LLDP MED Status checkbox enabled).

As a workaround I've been forcing 802.3at by using the set power-mode AT directly on the access point CLI. Once you type the command it will take a few minutes for the status to update. You will notice the power draw stats on the SG300-10MPP will update too.

Hope this info helps!
