Anyone encounter any issues when uplinking a Ruckus 7982 to a PoE enabled 5406zl Copper module. There is plenty of power availabe but all I get in the logs is the following:

Hi Brandon,

Is the AP failing to power up? I am not from electrical background but here is what I found. It may be due to switch rack's power circuit and the metal racks for the AP sharing the same electrical grounding.This can cause the full ground loop between switch and the AP and cause AP to fail.

I am not sure if this is the exact reason and if you have the above mentioned combination. I suggest opening a case with Ruckus TAC for this as this is not something common.

I am having this exact same issue with all of my POE switches. Only solution I found was to add external power to the AP for about 5 seconds and then remove and the devices would stay powered. Not the perfect solution but worked for what I needed today. I am looking to see if anyone has a fix for this.

@Rahul,

The APs are not powering up, that is the issue. I am using POE enabled switches to power these devices. Not external power.

@Hensley

Thank you for the information. I shall test this as well. It seems to only be on the 5406 module. I can power them on a 3500yl, 2910, 2620 and 2610 with no issues. I wonder if its a FW bug on the 5406 module.

Quick question though, are you using a POE injector and then switching the cable over to the switch or are you leaving the cable plugged in on the POE port with POE enabled on the switch port and then using an external power supply? Only reason I ask is the difficulty in getting an external power supply to an AP in the ceiling.
