Why are HP printers identified as an AP?

I have an HP 7520 connecting to an R510 (Unleashed).  I notice it's being detected as a rogue AP.  Why does Ruckus see it as an AP versus just a client?  Is there a setting on the printer that is causing this?  Is there a way to white list it in Unleased so it is not seen as a malicious rogue AP?

Hi Michael,

It's because the HP printers have a built in AP for peer printing from phones etc without the need to install drivers etc. I'm not sure about white-listing as I tend to turn this feature off on the printers

Hi Michael, Gideon nailed it—HP printers like the 7520 have Wi-Fi Direct acting as an AP for peer printing, which Ruckus flags as rogue. Disable it via the printer’s Network settings or whitelist the MAC in Unleashed’s Rogue AP Detection. This is a great case for HP Practice Questions in IT certifications, as they often cover rogue device scenarios. Anyone else hit this with HP gear?
