Do I need a router?

I'm new to Ruckus and am unfamiliar with the networking equipment.

I have an Arris Surfboard SB6183 modem, a Ruckus ICX 7150-c12p switch, and 2 Ruckus R510 access points.

With this, do I also need a router or does one of the listed Ruckus devices act as one? I am trying to setup Ruckus Unleashed but am having a lot of problems. If I do need a router, any suggestions on routers compatible with Ruckus devices for home use?

Blake,

Please keep in mind that PoE is not turned on by default. Old firmware required you to go in and turn on PoE on each port individually.

You will need a console cable for the switch and a USB to Serial adapter to get into console to troubleshoot it. I suggest any adapter that is made with FTDI chipset, - they are the best.

Something like that would work great:

Your Ruckus Gateway WAP would be a firewall as well. it's basic, but it does the job. Check out this pic:

P.S.
If you are looking for someone to look at your switch and troubleshoot/upgrade it, hit me up and we can work out a deal.

Try:
en
conf t
blah(config)# int e 1/1/1 to 1/1/24
blah(config-if1/1/1-1/1/24)# inline power

You can also do a "show inline power" and a "show inline power detail"

What version code is it running?

You could turn one of your APs into gateway mode, but I don’t recommend it if you bandwidth is greater than 200mbps . I know that routing bandwidth caps out under 300mbps I would just flash the ICX into router mode.

Hi, I'm running the ICX in router mode but I don't want to connect the modem directly into the same VLAN with my APs and wired devices. So I want to create 2 VLANs and then route the Internet traffic from Internal VLAN to External. But, I found a weird problem for now, when I changed to router mode, the APs are no longer able to see the ICX in the unleashed application, so L2 is working but I can't ping or access the ICX from within the VLAN, but I can access it if I'm connected in the router at the same level as the ICX. Any ideas?
