Fan noise on ICX 7150-48PF

Hello all

I have a pair of these switches working as a stack in a residential site, which have just been commissioned.  They replace some L2+ switches by A.N.Other brand that were not suitable.

Although these units are providing the functions we need, the cooling fans are extremely loud to the point of distraction to clients in the adjacent room.

Although my PoE budget is only about 30% on each switch,  fanless-mode-enable is apparently not compatible with this model.

Is there a way to remedy this?  Either hardware (replacement compatible fans) or software / CLI.

Hello,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. To investigate further, we may need to examine the logs more closely to identify any potential problems with the fans or alerts related to the current temperature levels. The fans operate automatically and will switch to high speed if necessary, which could explain the noise you’re experiencing. This is just an educated guess based on my experience and the information you’ve provided.

I recommend opening a ticket with the Wired TAC team for a thorough review. You can start a new case by clicking here.

Thanks!

Hi Maria

I did as you suggested but the Level 1 support person won't progress without a support contract.  I'm not dead set against buying one but it's not a straightforward process to obtain one in Australia.  However I am now waiting for a callback from the Australian distributor.

The Wired TAC person is willing to progress under a warranty return but this seems silly as it will cost both parties time can money, and besides, I don't think there's anything 'faulty' happening.  They're just really loud, and maybe unsuitable for this site.

They're not running at full speed, which you can hear as being distinctly different.  I can post the results of 'show version' and 'show chassis' if that helps which shows they're ticking over at fan speed 1.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this info. Sure, please share those outputs and I'll check if there is anything unusual.
