Will the 901-R550-WW0 operate standalone without unleased software or a cloud service?

R550 can be used as Standalone as long as you have correct firmware (114.x.x) on it:

Yes, it will. But it makes sense to upgrade it to Unleashed, as it is much more function-reach, and it costs nothing to do so...
