Configuring r650 unleashed for wireless bridge to Unifi AP

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Ruckus R650 AP and I'm looking to set it up in bridge mode to wirelessly extend my network. Here’s my current setup:

  • I have a UniFi AP upstairs that’s connected to my switch, and I’m using it to broadcast my network.
  • Downstairs, I used to have another UniFi AP set to bridge mode, wirelessly connecting to the upstairs AP to extend the network.
  • Now, I’d like to replace the downstairs UniFi AP with the Ruckus R650, set it to bridge mode, and connect wirelessly to the upstairs UniFi AP.

Does anyone know the steps to configure the R650 for this kind of wireless backhaul in bridge mode? Also, are there any compatibility issues I should be aware of when mixing the Ruckus AP with the UniFi upstairs?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You cannot bridge a wireless network between vendors. Your best bet is to first see if a single Ruckus AP will cover both floors (I am doing this currently with a single R750 covering the entire house). If that doesn't provide enough coverage, get another Ruckus AP and ditch the Unifi APs completely.
