I don't have any R720s at home, but I chucked a few other models on my
desk so you can see what they look like. They all have rubber feet, so
they sit nicely on a desk.
The AP with sockets sticking out is an M510 but I included it because it's roughly R510 size.
The 7982 is roughly R720 size.
The
R600 is my personal favourite looks- & size- wise (and they cost
just about nothing - I just bought a bunch for US$35 2nd hand). It's a shame the newer APs are
so much chunkier.
Just as a datapoint... I had lots of dead spots in my large 2 story wooden house, so I replaced three Unifi APs with three Ruckus R600s. The R600 range was so much better than my existing APs that
one R600, upside down on top of the insulation inside my ceiling, gives good 5Ghz coverage everywhere indoors and 2.4Ghz coverage halfway up the street. I recently got hold of a cheap ZD1200 and some R610s. Unfortunately there are
still very poor quality wifi clients (e.g. my brand new phone with a mediatek chipset) which refuse to roam, and my new-ish HP printer needs its own WLAN with roaming disabled.
