Blocking Rogue SSIDs

Is it possible to block SSIDs being broadcast in our area? A local ISP is offering an open SSID that students are using to bypass our filters.

Yeah if you are in the US, be mindful of the recent FCC guidance regarding the Mariott case. The underlying statement seems to be that the wifi spectrum doesn't belong to you even on your property, so aggressively using a form of WIPS is probably not legal.

Jamming a signal is not a good idea , it could also block more than just wifi signal ; these devices could disrupt important communications services that operate on adjacent frequencies, or worse, they could disrupt all communications within a broad frequency range .

According to Federal law ,it prohibits the operation, marketing, or sale of any type of jamming equipment, including devices that interfere with cellular and Personal Communication Services (PCS), police radar, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and wireless networking services (Wi-Fi).
