Ruckus Unleashed “Configure.Me” SSID Initial Setup Security

Hi there,

I am currently in the process of deploying multiple Ruckus R550s in my network, but I have concerns about the security of the “Configure.Me” SSID that is initially broadcast by the first AP in the Unleashed Network.

My questions are as follows:

1. Does this SSID have a client device limit? For example, when I am connected to the AP to configure it from a trusted device, does this prevent other devices from connecting to the open SSID to avoid configuration conflicts?

2. If the answer to the above is no, and assuming there is no data uplink (only power via PoE), can clients still communicate with each other through this SSID? For an example, could they ping or SSH into another device connected to the SSID over the Configure.Me Network?

3. Is there a way to stop this SSID from broadcasting entirely? For example, could I configure the APs using an Ethernet connection via the secondary port to avoid these issues altogether?

Thank you in advance for any insights. I greatly appreciate any support provided.

The Ruckus R550 represents an evolution in Access Point (AP) technology - it's not just a Wi-Fi AP, it's a Wireless Technology Hub.

The Ruckus R550 is a 4 stream AP (2x2:2 in 2.4Ghz, 2x2:2 in 5GHz) that comes with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) capable of delivering 1200Mbps in 5GHz and 574Mbps in 2.4GHz.  The Ruckus R550 also comes with built-in BLE & Zigbee, and the option to expand to other IoT wireless protocols in the future.
