R600/700 - orientation for best range

Assuming no obstructions, which orientation for R600 or R700 APs offers the best range? Vertical (wall mount) or horizontal (ceiling mount). For each mount type, which direction relative to the AP will the antenna have the best range (ie, straight out from the flat face or from the edge, or something in between)?

I have always ceiling mounted the R600 and R700  to cover the horizonal plane, ie. offices on the same floor.
