ICX7150 Switch routing code issue, slow and intermittent internet

Hi,

I have issues with my Ruckus network. I had a power down issue and Cox issues. Now my Cox network works fine but my Ruckus network has many issues. Internet is very slow or not working at all. My Unleashed app is showing ICX7150-C12-Router and "connecting (discovery)" with red font.

I read many other forums that all point to the routing code issue. I tried to connect with a Putty command line to my switch but the CLI doesn't accept the commands listed on other forums, such as "show flash", "copy flash flash secondary", "boot system flash secondary yes". I am attaching a screenshot of my Putty CLI window.

I see 3 IP addresses for Ruckus Wireless since I have one switch and two APs. One IP doesn't connect while the second doesn't accept the "enable" command. The third one is the one that I am showing the screenshot from above.

I also tried to connect to the switch with a USB cable but I couldn't find instructions to connect with the serial interface.

Please advise on how to reconfigure the switch out of this Routing mode.

It seems that you are currently seeing the ‘ruckus>’ prompt in the CLI, which is associated with Unleashed rather than the ICX-7150-C12P Switch. To confirm you are accessing the Switch CLI, you should see prompts such as:

Additionally, you should see the Switch Dashboard, as shown in the screenshot below, to verify the Switch IP Address.

Since the IP address 192.168.0.75 appears to be inactive, it may be related to the Switch. Please try rebooting your ISP (Internet Service Provider) modem-router combo device by unplugging it from the power outlet, waiting a few moments, and then plugging it back in. After performing this reboot, scan for IP addresses again to check if the Switch IP address becomes active or any new active IP address assigned to the Switch.

Please confirm if this resolves the issue.

I followed these steps but I am still getting 192.168.0.75 inactive state while the two other IPs are active. Here is a screenshot of the switch box in case you find any clue. The Ruckus network is working at the moment but very slow.

If there is no active IP address of the Switch, the only option is to get Console CLI access. Please try getting console access to the Switch and try to access CLI.

Here is a guide on how to access to the Switch via console (cable access between your PC to the ICX 7150-C12P) in this case we need a USB type C to USB standard OR Console cable Rj45 to USB (Any one cable- please refer the guide)

Hi Imran,

I tried to connect to the USB-C connector on the switch to my laptop USB-C port after installing the driver. Unfortunately, I still can't connect to the switch and I can't see the CP210x USB in device manager when I connect the cable. Do you know if USB-C to USB-C cable should work since my laptop doesn't have USB-A ports?

Both ends of Type-C may have some issues.

You can check using an ethernet cable connecting to the alternate console port on the Switch (Port no. 15 in the below screenshot) that does the same function as the USB type-c port on the Switch.

Once again, please make sure to download the zip drive for the file below & "extract all". Once it's extracted, run the file, the driver should be installed using the 2 links below.

Hi Imran,

I used USB-C to USB-A cable and USB-A to USB-C adaptor to connect the switch to my laptop and I was able to access the switch command line. It was indeed in Router mode and I followed the commands you recommended in the beginning. The switch now is showing "switch" mode not router. Thank you so much for helping me resolve the issue!

The only question I still have is that the speed I am getting from Ruckus AP's is still limited to under 85Mbps, even if I am very close to the AP, while my ISP WiFi is giving me 700Mbps if I am close to the WiFi router. Is this speed limit expected with my Ruckus devices? Or is there other fixes I can do to get the full speed it can offer?

To address the speed issues, please unplug the R510 Access Points and ISP Router's cable from the current ports and plug them to any other ports 1 through 12 (Refer to the below screenshot) on the RUCKUS ICX-7150-C12P Switch. Then check the speeds.

I unplugged all cable and re-plugged only the ISP and APs cables on different slots. I still get slow ~80Mbps wifi speed from the AP's.

We may need to review the configuration of the Access Points (AP) via the Unleashed system.

Please follow the instructions below and provide the requested details:

1. Log in to your Unleashed system using a laptop web browser, either via the Master AP IP Address or https://unleashed.ruckuswireless.com/

2. Take separate screenshots for each Access Point, similar to the example provided below to check the AP port speed.

3. Additionally, perform a SpeedFlex test to measure the speeds between the Master and Member Access Points. Refer to the screenshot below for the SpeedFlex process.

Please provide the requested screenshots and test results at your earliest convenience.

I did create two new WLAN's, one on 5GHz and another on 2.4GHz. Unfortunately, the Wifi speed is still limited or 80Msps or less, closer to the APs.

Hi Imran,

Thanks for sharing this information. I followed the steps to factory reset my AP and create a new Wifi but the new Wifi doesn't seem to be working. I repeated the process twice but got t he same problem. The AP power LED is flashing green and doesn't turn solid green as you see in the attached image. Also, I am not able to connect to the new Wifi on my phone or laptop. I am attaching the picture showing the new Wifi having a continuous progress icon next to it that doesn't go away and I lose internet connectivity.

The command output appears to be normal. However, it seems that your switch is running an older version. Before proceeding with an upgrade, could you please provide the following information?

1. How many RUCKUS Access Points do you have?

2. If you are still seeing the old Wi-Fi network, please try forgetting the network or toggling your Wi-Fi off and on again to check if the new Wi-Fi network appears.

If the new network still does not appear, it may indicate that the factory reset process was not successful.

I have two APs and I disconnected one per instructions. I repeated the factory reset again just to make sure it works. I can now connect to the new Wifi I created but the speed is still slow ~90Msps. Also I wasn't able to manage the new network in the Unleashed App. I am attaching some images for the new network behavior.

Regarding the Switch upgrade process, we recommend transitioning to version 08.0.95g, identified as the stable version for Lennar Home users.

I followed the instructions to upgrade the switch and the AP. Both were successful but I had to create a new WLAN since the AP upgrade removed my previous WLAN.

Unfortunately, the Wifi speed is still limited to 80Mbps or less on my phone and laptop. Maybe this is the H/W limitation of my switch and AP? What is the expected Wifi speed for my system?

The RUCKUS R510 APs support wireless network speeds of up to 1.3 Gbps, while the ICX-7150-C12P Switch supports speeds of 10 Gbps or higher.

Please consider the following steps once:

1. Clear Your Browser Cache: Sometimes, old or corrupted files in your cache can cause loading issues. Clearing your browser’s cache might help.

2. Try a Different Browser: If you’re using one browser, try accessing the site with another (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge) to see if the issue persists.

3. Check Your Internet Connection: Ensure your internet connection is stable and not experiencing high latency or interruptions.

4. Disable Browser Extensions: Some browser extensions can interfere with site performance. Try disabling them temporarily to see if it improves the loading time.

5. Update Your Browser: Make sure your browser is up to date with the latest version, as updates can resolve compatibility issues.

6. Try Accessing from a Different Network: If possible, attempt to access the site from a different network (e.g., a mobile hotspot) to rule out network-specific issues.

7. Check ethernet cables: Check ethernet cables connected to the Switch and Access Points if they are functioning properly.

8. Restart Your Router/Modem: Sometimes, restarting your network hardware can resolve connectivity issues.

I have tried multiple devices and phones and they all give me a slow speed. I recall we tried the speed between the two APs and it was around 400Mbps.

I still have my second AP disconnected. How can I connect and configure this other AP with the new WLAN? How to assign it as a member since the first AP would be the master AP?

After performing a factory reset connecting only ONE Access Point, and connecting back the disconnecting AP back to the Switch port after reset, should synchronize with the existing Unleashed system, with the reset AP acting as the master and the others as slaves.

To ensure both Access Points are part of the same Unleashed system, they must be running the same Unleashed version. To verify this, please follow these steps:

1. Perform an IP scan to identify the IP addresses assigned to both APs.

Refer the RUCKUS Lennar Knowledge Base self-help article on hoe to perform and identify Unleashed IP address.

I see from the web unleashed system screenshot both the Access Points are synced.

From the screenshot you shared, the RUCKUS Switch is not added into the Unleashed system. Since the Switch has not been integrated into the Unleashed system, please follow the outlined procedure below to manually add.

Switch Configuration:
1. Ensure that management approval is enabled on the Switch.

Access Points (Unleashed) Configuration: (Refer to the below steps and screenshots)
1. Access the Unleashed dashboard.

2. Remove the current non-working Switch.

3. Navigate to the "Add" function on the dashboard.

4. Enter the IP address and password for the ICX switch (ICX-7150-C12P). This IP address is the same one used to access the Switch CLI.

5. Use the same username and password for Switch authentication as you would for accessing the Switch via web or CLI (e.g., Putty).

6. Data synchronization may take several minutes. Once completed, the status should indicate "connected" on the dashboard.

Please review the dashboard post-synchronization to ensure the Switch has been successfully integrated.

To compare the speeds between the Access Point Wi-Fi and the Switch, please connect an Ethernet cable from your laptop to any 1 of the 12 ports on the Switch (refer to the screenshots below). Then, check the speed through your laptop’s web browser using this wired Internet connection.

The speed via an ethernet cable from the switch to my desktop is around 900Msps as shown below.

We had a power outage last night and the Wifi speed is better now from different spots in my house, as shown below. So the full power cycle of the system may have helped as well.

Actually, the 319 Msps speed was the ISP Wifi, closer to the router, but the 105Msps & 185Msps are from the AP Wifi.

It appears that the Access Points (APs) are now functioning normally. The observed speed variations may be attributed to several factors, such as RF interference and the distance between the device and the AP.

To clarify, a 2.4 GHz connection generally provides longer range but at lower speeds, whereas 5 GHz frequencies offer faster speeds but cover shorter distances. The choice between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is often determined automatically by the end device (such as phones, PCs, Ring doorbells, Mac devices, iPhones). Additionally, network configuration (Wi-Fi/SSID/WLAN) may specify whether the network supports only 2.4 GHz, only 5 GHz, or both.

It's also worth noting that many electronic devices and appliances, such as microwaves, baby monitors, security cameras, garage door openers, and phones, operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency, which can contribute to interference. Screenshot below for the reference.
