Switch disconnected, now has no config

Question

Hello - we had a power outage and the ICX switch is in disconnected mode in Unldeashed.

Now when switch boots, it does boot into switch mode. However, there is no config data and I get this error:

ICX7150-C12-Switch#show config

INFO: empty config data in the primary area, try to read from backup

INFO: empty config data in the backup area also

ICX7150-C12-Switch#TFTP session timed out

Please help?

The switch still shows as disconnected in Unleashed.

Hi @rjweeks70

Please try to remove and add the switch from the unleashed dashboard to make the switch sync with the unleashed app. For this process please follow the below steps.

On the Unleashed dashboard

1- Remove the existing Switch from the Unleashed (Please refer to the below picture):

2-Hit Add on that dashboard

3-Put the IP address of the ICX switch (ICX-7150-C12P) and Password– If you don’t know the IP Address of the Switch. Please perform the below command from the Switch CLI to get the same.

Device>enable
Device#show ip address

4-Username and password for Switch authentication are the same as what you use to log in for Switch on Web or CLI (Putty).

To sync the data, it will take us a while, so after a couple of minutes, it should say connected.

Make sure the management approval is enabled

Please see my original message at the top: I already performed this procedure and got the switch back into switch mode. When it came back up in switch mode, it gave me the error - again in my original post - about no config being present and no backup of the config.

So I just need to know - what do I need to config on the switch to get it recognized by Unleashed? It is clearly functioning as a dumb layer 2 switch right now, but it has no IP address and no other config.

Thanks for your response.

Based on your description it seems that your switch has green lights which means that your switch is in normal state. Also If there was a blackout or power outage and the switch reboot because of that, most possible your switch starts running the wrong code which we call ‘routing code’ this is a know issue.

To solve this issue we need to check whether the switch has connectivity to the access points.

There we are going to see 2 important things the

MAC address: Physical address of the device this never changes

An IP address is a unique address (logical) that identifies a device on the internet or a local network like your home (this can change and may not be the same as the one shown on the dashboard)

1- To fix this issue, we must identify the ‘currently’ IP address assigned by your local router to the switch

-We can try the IP address that shows in the dashboard copy and paste it in the URL if that redirects you to the login page for the ICX-7150-C12P that is the correct one if not.

I will leave you a guide how to perform an IP scanner on your local network to identify the switch IP address very easily.

2-Once we identified the IP address of the switch proceed to access remote to the device 'command Line'

If you can access to the Command line should look like this:

ICX7150-C12 Router>

3-Here is a quick guide to understand how to fix the 'routing code issue' but basically you need only need to run the following commands once you are on the command line 'CLI'

Note: Hit Enter to accept each command

enable

copy flash flash secondary

boot system flash secondary yes

example:

ICX7150-24P Router>enable (hit enter to accept the command)
ICX7150-24P Router#copy flash flash secondary (hit enter to accept the command and wait: until the flash finished )
ICX7150-24P Router#boot system flash secondary yes ( hit enter to accept the command  : the switch will reboot )

4-If the access via IP address is not possible here is a guide how to access to the Switch via console (cable access between your PC to the ICX 7150-C12P) in this case we need a USB type C to USB standard or Console cable Rj45 to USB.
