Smartzone SZ144 6.1.0.0.935 Correct Upgrade Path

Hello,

I am new to Ruckus environment. I am using Smartzone SZ144 with v6.1.0.0.935. I found that this version is already so old and obsolete.

I wanna know the safest and correct upgrade path for Smartzone I am using.

Any assistance would be so much appreacited.

Answer : Controller will go for a reboot and will take about 30-45 minutes to come up.
However, APs will hold the local config so it will be broadcasting the SSID.

Clients can connect to the SSIDs like WPA2 and work.

But Radius based SSID and Hotspot SSIDs will have issues since they are dependent on the controller to handle the client traffic.

And does the AP upgraded automatically after the controller upgraded ? Because we cannot compromise when the AP offline at the same time, it's nice when we can schedule the upgrade.
Answer : No, AP does not upgrade automatically, once the controller comes AP, AP will become online on their respective zones.

You will have to upgrade the AP zone firmware manually, by selecting the More option » and choose the available options to upgrade the AP firmware.

Controller Upgrade Impact

* During the SmartZone controller upgrade, the controller/cluster will restart as part of the upgrade process. APs may temporarily lose connectivity to the controller until the upgrade completes and the controller services come back online.
* For production environments, we recommend performing the controller upgrade during a maintenance window.

* AP Firmware Upgrade Behavior* APs are not automatically upgraded when the controller is upgraded. After the controller upgrade, the new AP firmware becomes available on the controller, but the AP firmware upgrade must be initiated separately.

AP firmware can be upgraded: Manually per zone

If minimizing service impact is critical, we recommend scheduling the AP firmware upgrade during a maintenance window and, if applicable, upgrading zones in stages.

In summary, the SmartZone controller upgrade and the AP firmware upgrade are two separate processes. The controller can be upgraded first, and the AP firmware upgrade can then be scheduled for a later maintenance window based on your operational requirements.
