I’ve read about this issue and have determined that my switch needs replacement. I started a chat and cannot get past the serial number question. How can I get this replacement as soon as possible? If I am looking at the serial number, there are many characters that could be a letter O or a number zero and I cannot tell. Please help!

We will first need to gather some information and troubleshoot the issue, if we confirm the root cause is at hardware level, then we proceed with the replacement.

Then, could you please check what is the current software version installed by using the command: show version?

Also, please confirm if the unit is plugged into a known-good power source.

Hi Maria,

I am not a tech person and this seems like a lot for an average homeowner to perform. Do I really need to download all of this on my computer to get a software version for diagnosis? There are so many words and acronyms I do not understand. In addition, you are asking me to do this with limited internet connection. How long do I need to be online to do all of this?

It has been working since I built the home in 2020 and now is not. It has been slowly getting to this increased intermittency. Weeks leading up to this I thought it was actual internet outages.

Double click on the downloaded file.

Here click <Next>, then <Next> again, and then <Install>.

Then wait a couple of minutes while it loads and then click on <Finish>

Finally, look for the Putty app on the search bar and double-click on it to open it.

How do you install a driver? I did all the buttons in the photos.

I see you downloaded the file a few times, but it doesn't seem it was installed at any point.

Here the install process:

Then click on <Extract>

Then click on the new non-compressed folder.

Then double-click on the filed marked on the next image:

A new window with the installer assistant will appear, there click <Next>, then <I accept this agreement>, then <Finish>

Close and reopen the device manager to see if the Ports option is available.

Based on the screenshot shared, the switch didn't request you to login, so you can disregard that step.

The show version output shows the switch is running a very old software version.

To fix that we will need to upgrade the switch to a stable version, here the steps:

Okay, I have the USB drive ready. What does it mean to 'copy' a file? Do I paste it somewhere?

I found my IP address and when I put it into PuTTY, the connection is refused through a network error. Is that because I need to login to the IP Address? I do not know my username/password for this.

Yes, copy the file and paste it into the USB flash drive.

You already had a console session to the switch CLI, so you don't need to do the SSH part.

Right where you did the show version command, you can proceed to enter the commands for loading the software from the USB to the ICX switch.
