How to make laptop connect to the AC mode?

Roaming (and band selection is a subset of roaming) is an almost entirely client-controlled feature. Ruckus supports "intelligent band steering" that attempts to direct 5GHz capable clients towards 5GHz, but if a client absolutely insists on 2.4GHz, the AP's will still allow them on, otherwise the clients will simply just stay disconnected.

The most bulletproof workaround for this is to create a separate 5GHz SSID and a combo 2.4+5GHz ID, so you can forcibly select the 5GHz one when you know the client is in a good spot for it.

Note that 5GHz has a much more difficult time penetrating walls and other solid objects compared to 2.4GHz, so if you're a bit too far from your access point, 2.4GHz may actually be the appropriate choice.

802.11 AC is only on 5ghz and if your laptops supports only 2.4ghz then you can't get 802.11ac speeds on the laptop...

ZD1200 first shipped with 9.9 version, and WLAN config should not be that different.

What make/model of Laptop do you have, with what radio? Is it 802.11ac capable?

If you create two PSK WLANs, 24-test and 5-test, only advertised on 2.4 and 5G respectively,
can your laptop see either one (or both)?

I do agree that coming from standalone, the way to make 5GHz-only / 2.4GHz-only SSIDs is not immediately obvious in the ZD UI.

As Michael alluded to, the way you do this is you define your SSIDs (for example, wifi-2G, wifi-5G, wifi-both). Then, you define two WLAN groups: "For 2.4GHz Radios", "For 5GHz radios".

Assign wifi-2G and wifi-both to the 2.4 group, assign wifi-5G and wifi-both to the 5G group.

Then in the AP or AP Group settings, you can override 5G and 2G radio WLAN group. Set the 2G group to "For 2.4GHz radios", and similarly for the 5G override.

It's really straightforward once you're used to it, but at first it does feel somewhat strange.
