Could Unleashed R500 AP  convert to R500 managed ZD1200 or SZ100?

Yes, you convert from the Unleashed image to Solo AP image (100.x) which can join/connect to either ZD or SZ platforms.

Unleashed platform does not need a controller, but has a Master AP with similar functionality to the Unleashed AP network.

Yep, that's correct. Hard reset the AP, connect to its Configure.Me-xxxx SSID just like during initial setup, then drop down the "More Info" box on the first page, and you'll see an Upgrade button for the firmware. Point it at a ZD or 100.x firmware, and it will convert to those.
