Applications flows monitoring - Config details

Question

Is it possible to monitor realtime unique source/destination flows including mac, ip, tcp/udp ports, volumes and application decoding (ie recognition) ? Does it need to rely on a SCG or a ZoneDirector ?

There might be some sort of traffic monitor software applications, I don't know of any off hand.
