As far as I know from trying to help another Lennar smart home owner, he had 9 things plugged into the ICX-7150 Poe switch.
1. Ethernet port in Living Room
2. Ethernet Port in Family Room
3. Ethernet port in Master Bedroom
4. Lutron home lighting interface device
5. Samsung Smart Things home interface device
6. Kevo home interface device
7. Ring doorbell elite Poe
8. Ruckus r510 AP
9. ISP-modem/router/WiFi
And others would have a 2nd r510 plugged in too.
I recommend turning off the WiFi on the ISP modem router.
I'm conflicted myself. My ISP is Verizon and the router they provide can support 802.11-ax. I'm not sure if I should turn off the radio on the router (ISP) and let the Ruckus AP provide my wireless signal or figure out how to put the router into bridge mode instead
I am glad that I found this post. I want to say for all owners of the Lennar Connected Home (ICX 7150-c12p with the R510 APs), a lot of frustration can be avoided by realizing if you merely have a cable modem, you will probably need a router as well. For us lay folk, that is not an obvious thing. Currently I am waiting on my router to show up so I can finally use my system as intended (currently setup in Gateway mode and only able to use one AP). I am honestly surprised it even works this way.
To Commscope/Ruckus, is there ever a plan to add NAT functionality to the ICX 7150-c12p? Is it even possible? If not, would someone mind explaining why it isn't? Doing so would simplify things by a factor of 10.
Thanks for dealing with my rant all. I look forward to having my system up and running in the near future.
Jon
I just switched my older Netgear cable modem router to a Nighthawk AX2700 (CAX30) which is 802.11ax cable modem and Wifi 6 router combo. Is there a software update on the R510 APs that will enable it to support wifi 6? Wifi 6 is supposed to be backwards compatible but my R510s won't connect nor push out the signal. I have my modem router, Smart Things HUB, and Lutron HUB connected to my Ruckus ICX 7150-c12p and work well. However my R510s won't. If there's no software updates available, is there a trade up program so I can replace my current switch and/or APs to ones that are compatible? What switches and APs are compatible with the NETGEAR Nighthawk AX2700 CAX30? Thank you in advance for any assistance and information that anyone could provide.
@benedicto_singian
are all your current WiFi devices WiFi 6? .. personally I would shut off the WiFi on your cable modem combo router even though it has WiFi 6. Your Lennar home should have 2-3 ruckus R510 APs which is far superior than the Netgear for reliability and it’s much faster when dealing with older device and can handle WiFi inference much better than the Netgear. I would just use the Netgear as a modem and wired router for your situation since the Ruckus will handle roaming between APs better Also the ruckus APs will handle a large amount of IOT WiFi devices and will have better range coverage than the Netgear.
Here’s a video that explains Ruckus’s adaptive antenna
https://youtu.be/0G7CfExG1oE
Current your ruckus r510s are not configured.
You can download the ruckus unleashed App for iOS or android and it will help you set it up.
If you don’t have an iOS or Android device you can go to https://unleashed.ruckuswireless.com when you login the the Lennar-configureme .xxxx.
I generally find logging in through a desktop or laptop device more reliable than using the mobile app. Then again it's my preference too.
Choose typical setup.

As for answering your questions. No you can not Upgrade the Ruckus R510 to Wifi 6 via firmware update it requires new hardware such as Ruckus R550 (Wifi 6)
There is probably newer firmware available to upgrade the current R510 that you have which is 802.11ac Wave 2.
Upgrading to R550 would be fairly expensive since they go on Average from a Ruckus Authorized about $550-$600 each
Just note, Wifi 6e is around the corner and will probably be released end of the year or next year.
You should also know Ruckus APs are enterprise grade Wifi APs while netgear Wifi routers are just consumer grade.
Anyway, you get your Ruckus R510 configured with the Ruckus Unleashed AP it should be fine. If you want more options for control I recommend logging in through a web browser locally to your wifi to https://unleashed.ruckuswireless.com which brings you to your master controller and you are able to configure and update your Ruckus APs and switches to higher firmware.
Note, All the ruckus APs that's installed in your Lennar Home is installed at the optimized positions through out your home. They also have limited lifetime warranty on the Ruckus R510 APs and your Ruckus Switch as the original owner of the house.
@hayward_kong I have the Unleashed app, been living in this home almost 3 years. I changed my previous modem-router combo (also a Netgear, older model) to the newer one because signal strength got noticeably weaker over the years since moving in to the home. I can't access the Unleashed app, kept saying I'm not on the Unleashed network and there's no "Configure.me.xxxxx" in my wifi settings. It won't let me past the installation option page. The site itself won't load. I have excellent wifi signal. I called Ruckus, they said they don't service Lennar Homes anymore and to contact Wave Technologies. I did that and they haven't returned any of my calls nor emails. Is there an easier way to reconfigure my system (switch, APs) to work properly in sync with my modem router. If Ruckus is industrial-grade tech, then it shouldn't have this much problems trying to get it to work with my Netgear AX2700 CAX30, or any type of modem/modem-router. I'm not that tech-savvy but know enough to get by setting up typical home wifi. This just frustrates me.
Since you mention that your wifi signal grew weaker and weaker over time , means that you probably never used the Ruckus Wifi network at all and perhaps it wasn’t configured properly. What also might have confused you is the fact you continued to use the Netgear Wifi as you are currently doing. Note Ruckus Wifi does not extend the Netgear Wifi. It replaces the Netgear Wifi so you want to eventually disable the Netgear Wifi once it is setup.
First of all, find out how many Ruckus R510 are in the house? If you have 2 or 3 R510 then that is the number of resets you will have to do physically.
You will need a ladder and need to reset each Ruckus r510 device . You’ll need a paper clip to hold down the reset switch for at least 10secs-15secs.
Note this will be a little tricky for you as an inexperienced user.
What I would suggest is to found out, at the switch level, which Ethernet cable goes to each r510. Unplug all the Ruckus R51O from the switch while keeping track which port it goes to. Once that is all done select one of the Ruckus r510 as it will be considered later on as the Master AP. While all the other R510 are off and unplugged but one R510 should be plugged in and that single powered one is the one we will initially reset physically with the paper clip. The reason why we want the other Ruckus r510 off is the fact that if you reset one of the Ruckus R51O while the non-reset Ruckus 510 is still active , the non-reset will automatic reconfigure the old settings to the reset Ruckus R510. Basically you want to reset each Ruckus R510 at a time while the others are off. Failure to so will result to older previous settings which doesn’t help you.
Once you get them all reset and only one powered at a time, each of them will broadcast configureme-xxyy (each of them will have a slightly different number). Again at this point only one active Ruckus R510 while the others are off)
I suggest using a laptop the next step vs using the Ruckus Unleashed app since there is a high chance that your Ruckus R510 APs are using older firmware 200.5.x or 200.6 which I found not as reliable connecting to the Unleashed.app.
Please following this video for configuration.
https://youtu.be/j8I5aVwMNMg
It should look closely to yours since this video was done 4 years ago and your firmware would likely be outdated.
You should probably want to change the wifi SSID name for your netgear if you have customized the name that you want to use permanently on the Ruckus Wifi.
Take for example Your current netgear Wifi SSID is ‘HomeWifi’ and you want to use that as your Ruckus Wifi SSID.
So you change your Netgear Wifi SSID to ‘HomeWifiNet’ and when you setup the Ruckus Wifi .. the SSID would be “HomeWifi”
Once your Ruckus Wifi is setup and working on the first Master device that you just configured. Then just plug in the other Ruckus R510 devices that have already been reset. At this point the Master Device will find the new un-configured Ruckus R510 and automatically configure them and adaptive them. These other wifi APs will then become a member of the Wifi APs. Give them a few mins to configure.
Once the other floors are working then disable the Wifi on your Netgear…. You want to disable it since it would be also adding wifi inference in your home and competing against the Ruckus Wifi network.
Again, I’m assuming your Netgear Modem/router/Wifi combo is directly plug into the Ruckus Switch.
So at this point the netgear will be your modem and router with Wifi disabled on it while the Ruckus will be handing your Wifi function only.
Anyway log again with your laptop to https://unleashed.ruckuswireless.com
Go to the Admin tap and look for upgrades/update… up date to the latest one online and bring it up to 200.10.10.5.246.. if that version is not available update to the latest one that is available to you and then reboot. After rebooting and log in and check for updates again til you get up to 200.10.10.5.246.
Once that’s all working then I want you to assigned a permanent static IP for each Ruckus AP. This should be in your DHCP settings on your Netgear router for Static IP assignments.
If you still how questions or still need help, let me know.
Oh One more thing. To unmount the Ruckus R510 off the Ruckus Mounting Bracket on the ceiling you need to use a paper clip in a hole at the front of the Ruckus R510 where the Status LEDs are which is considered the front. Slightly above the LEDs you will find a paper clip hole. Push a paper clip into it to unlatch the locking mechanism and pull forward towards the front of the LEDs and slide down. Once the Ruckus R510 is dismounted, you can push the paper clip into the reset hole and hold down for 10-15 secs which will reset that single Ruckus Device.
Here’s a diagram which will help you in locating in locating the hole to press to unlock the locking mechanism.

Also make note of your IOT Wifi devices on what network wifi name it's connected to ... since if it's connected to your existing ruckus Wifi network which you have no idea... and suddenly you reset it and change the name and the device can not find the wifi network. Then you might need to reset that IOT device and reconfigure it. Just a word of warning. As for now I know that older Lennar Smart homes used the Ring Doorbell Pro/elite which has POE.... whatever ring camera you have it has POE but the older version.
In Summary, you should be fine once you are able to reset all the Ruckus R510 one at a time while the others are powered off and so on. Make sure you only work on one at a time while leaving them off. This step is very important. Once you reset all, just power up the one you will consider it master and follow the video instructions for unleashed setup which is pretty easy. After the first one is setup and working. Then just plug in the Ruckus of the R510s then it will auto configure from the master.
The Ruckus R510 wifi are superior to your single Netgear CAX30S enough though it's 802.11ac Wave 2. The down side it's it's not Wifi 6 which is not a big deal.
As for now, I do know Lennar Smart Homes starting in March 2021 started using Eero 6 Pro for their smart homes which I consider it a downgrade. The reason why I know that is the fact one of my friends just bought a house and was finished July 2021 and it came with that. I guess Amazon pushed a lot of weight in having them switch from Ruckus.
@kevin_marshall
If you want better Reliability then I would turn off the Wifi on your ISP router and use the Ruckus.
@jon_harwood ...
Just think of the Ruckus ICX as just a Switch that provides power to your Ruckus APs. You need a separate router which is the best thing. Most of the IT industry is about about separate components doing it's dedicated job. You have a POE switch, Separate wifi APs, separate Router... separate Modem. The Combo units usually don't do as well of a job. The combo units for for consumers usually are lacking in features and control. Anyway it seems Lennar new homes built later in 2021 have switched over the Eero 6 Pro probably do to a push from Amazon. But if you have issues with your existing Ruckus System Let me know and I can help. What router did you order? I have some my clients and friends using Mikrotik routers which do they do best as dedicated routers. MikroTik Wifi APs are yuck when compared to Ruckus Wifi APs. Yes MikroTik routers are a bit complex and can look intimidating with their GUI but they do have a quick easy setup. But for more complex setups it'll require more digging into. I use to have my clients use Edgerouter 4 and had been very rock solid til EdgeOS 2.x.x which then changed my mind. Thank goodness that openwrt has a snapshot for the Edgerouter 4 and will switch firmware with my clients that have them soon after more testing.
@hayward_kong
I went with the Edge Router Lite. It seemed to have what I needed for a good price.
I understand your point about separate components. Easier to pinpoint what may or may not be broken when troubleshooting or even during initial install.
All I know is that I am up and running after many hours of resets and YouTube videos (and realizing I needed a router).
Thanks for offering your support to myself and others.
@jon_harwood
How has the Edgerouter Lite been for you? I know edgerOS 2.x.x hasn't been too reliable with more complex features turn on.. but I know EdgeOS 1.10.11 was a lot more reliable. At least you have an alternative to switch to Openwrt, but you loose out the the hardware acceleration but have software acceleration and can get about 600-700mbps on openwrt. Yeah I own an older Edgerouter Lite that was in service from 2014-2019 for a client who owned one and then when they upgraded they gave me the older hardware. At this point, I would not invest anything more in ubiquiti gear since their development team that developed EdgeOS 1.x.x has all left ubiquiti and a new development team did EdgeOS 2.x.x which can explain the bloody mess at it's initial release. Also I wasn't too happy about their hardware since I had one client who had an Edgerouter 4 and Edgerouter 12 fail on them. Two out of Three Edgerouters failed on them. One after two years and one less than a year. I also had an edgerouter X fail on me when I got one as a cheap router for my parents. All hardware failures.
