zd1100 rescue mode not working

I have a dead zd1100, have followed other forum instructions & tried to revive it with a generic 2GB usb drive, goes into rescue mode, but fdisk does not appear to do anything.
what I've tried.....
fdisk (left for over an hour)
perform fw upgrade 9.3
clonezilla a working ZD1100 USB

I'm a windows ma not Linux, any help, thank you
