Can the ZD1100 be used to control a few R700's and not require a license?
I bought a couple of R700s and I'm using them as individual AP. It would be nice to have a better handoff of cell phone traffic as I move from one part of my house to another. Somethin like 802.11r rapid reconnections. Wondered if the Zone Directors might help and if they require a license for a small number of APs..
ZoneDirectors did ship with a quantity of built-in AP licenses. E.g the ZD3050 was a 3000 series appliance, with 50x built in licenses. The ZD1205 is likely to be the best fit for your requirements.
Mark,
The R700 was the first 802.11ac AP and due to its chipset age, Unleashed is not able to run on this platform. The newer R500 & R600 APs, whilst still 802.11ac grade Wi-Fi, have newer internal components that allow for the running of early versions of Unleashed. I would recommend looking for a ZoneDirector or newer APs if you require centrally managed functionality.
Hi Piet,
Yes, you can use ZD1100 with R700 APs.
Refer the ZD1100 9.10 release notes for more info (under supported APs).

But, you cannot use without AP licenses. I think default license on ZD1100 is 5 APs. If you have more than 5, you must purchase additional AP licenses.
Is Ruckus allowing folks to reset devices and maintain the existing licenses for the devices or like Ubiquiti no longer allowing any support for devices that are no longer supported? I'm very disappointed with Ubiquiti, like with Windows 11, it seems to be the trend to prevent customers from maintaining old geer.
How about a ZD 1200 that is suspected to have some licenses. Can I do a factory reset to get control of the ZD 1200 without losing the licenses? Ubiquiti is screwing me with my Ubiquiti access points, they won't allow their software to configure devices that are no longer supported. Shorting the bastards!
If I buy a ZoneDirector how do I deal with licensing?
How to know how many APs it's licensed for?
Can I do a factory reset and retain the licenses?
ZD1200 comes in different SKUs. AFAIK, default one comes with 5 AP support so even if you factory reset, you will not lose the AP lic.
Also, if you buy additional licenses and wants to do a factory reset, you can always download the license file from our support site and can support same number of APs as it was supporting before the factory reset.
